I did a calculation, average cost for Brita & Mavea filter was $7-$10 depends on the promotions they ran during the year. Every year, I would spend $70-$100 on the replacement filters alone, and the cost of using the filters go up every year. It doesn't make any senes for spending so much money on filters. It's a rip off.
I started seeking alternatives other than Brita and Mavea and I found TECLAN replacement filter, and I thought I would give it a try. To be very honest, the packaging I got was not that fancy and it's suprisingly cheap made carton box. The filter was wrapped by white plastic wrap, but it looks clean. I compared Mavea and Teclan filter side by side by using same size jugs, Mavea filter completed filtration in about 2 minutes, and Teclan filters completed in two and half minutes, it's slightly slower than the German made filter. However, I taste the filtered water myself, the water filtered by Mavea filter was bitter for some reason and has little chlorine taste(If I don't compare both filters, I would never notice this kind of nasty taste), water filtered by Teclan filter has a little bit sweet taste and has NO Chlorine taste at all. I think it's very important to all consumers.
Morever, I boiled both water, I did notice the water filtered by Mavea filter has white calcium pop up while water filtered by Teclan filter does not have it. I am pretty sure the Teclan filter remove more stuff from water than a Mavea filter. I've used 3 Teclan filters in about 4 months, so far so good.
The 4th filter I use seems slower than other filters, but it still gets job done.
