This is both an interesting read for those who are looking for an extremely knowledgeable author (Robert Spencer) who can in laymen terms explain the tenets of Islam and for those already exposed to Islam perhaps thinking of converting to help them cut through the sanitized cuddly image and look under the hood. The book is written in plain English making it accessible to both the general reader and the scholar providing a fact based analysis of this belief system. I recommend anyone wanting a firm grasp of the fundamentals of the Koran to get this book. Indeed I would go further; in this day and age where information is the new ideological battle space this book is required reading. If you do not understand Islam you will be one of it's victims and the Koran is at it's heart. Many I have come in contact with accepted Islam as being just another Eastern religion like Hinduism or Buddhism. I have discussed this book with them and asked what their thoughts were on it. Universally they have come to the conclusion that Islam is not like other religions; they have had their blinkers removed and now see Islam for what it truly is a warriors religion complete with injunctions contained in the Koran to eliminate all non believers and instructions on how to divide War Booty and captured Sex Slaves. The Complete Infidels Guide to the Koran is a must read for today's world. If you want to understand the Koran; do not hesitate to get this book you will not find a better teacher.

This is perhaps the best book I have read in a long while. It is unsurpassed in terms of clear concise teaching, thoughtful insight and a veritable treasure trove of well researched information. This is must reading for any non Muslim who interested in learning about the Islamic faith. An informed understanding of the Qur'an is an understanding of the Muslim mindset as it applies to unbelievers, specifically Christians and Jews.
Understandably this book will never be well received by Muslims or by those who persist in calling Islam a religion of peace. For the detractors who would say that I have let Robert Spencer do the thinking for me, that is simply not true.
I had already been studying the Qur'an in approx. 10 different translations, reading accounts of Muhammad's life and teaching from the Hadith and Sunnah respectively and had already come to many of the same conclusions that Robert Spencer has set forth. Not surprising considering we have been reading the same material ie: the Qur'an.

Robert Spencer is fast becoming a favorite author of mine.

OK, you've heard about the Koran....but what does it really say? Why is it that some Muslim women can go around with only a scarf on their heads and others have to wear head-to-toe black? Infidels everywhere are curious. This is a light-hearted look at the whole issue.

If I had a nickel for every jihadist who wanted to kill Robert Spencer'well, you get the idea. If you don't believe Islam is a threat to infidels, or non-believers, try reading The Complete Infidel's Guide to the Koran in front of a mosque and see what happens. Spencer's book explains why it happens, and the why is directly related to what is written in the Koran as it purports to be the absolute words of Allah. Not a single word can be disputed in the Koran for to do so would be apostasy, which is grounds for divorce from life, and an eternal sentence in hell where 'Surely, those who disbelieved in Our verses (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). We shall burn the in Fire. As often as their skins are roasted through, We shall change them for other skins that they may taste the punishment. Truly, Allah is Ever Most Powerful, All-Wise. (4:56). As Spencer states, 'For more than a billion Muslims, the Koran is the unadulterated, pure word of Allah, eternal and perfect, delivered through the angel Gabriel to the prophet Muhammad.' The Koran attracts many converts to Islam and it 'must be treated with the greatest reverence,' and Spencer tells us that Muslims will not even touch the Koran unless they are in a state of purity.

But Spencer also discusses how some have compared this holy book to Hitler's Mein Kampf, like the late Oriana Fallaci, an Italian journalist who said, 'the Koran is the Mein Kampf of a religion which has always aimed to eliminate the others.' Winston Churchill, on the other hand, compared Mein Kampf to the Koran, calling it 'the new Koran of faith and war: turgid, verbose, shapeless, but pregnant with message.

With the present conflict between radical Islamists and Western societies, a knowledge of the Koran is very worthwhile for anyone interested in current affairs and/or public policy of Western governments. Since the Koran is the foundation of Islamist ideology and that Islamist ideology is fundamentally hostile to most of the basic values of Western liberal societies, a basic knowledge of the Koran is arguably essential for non-Muslim citizens in all Western countries.

This book provides a worthwhile primer on the Koran's teachings, particularly where those teachings conflict with many of the values of Western societies. Robert Spencer is one of the better writers currently writing on this subject and this book is up to his usual standards.

There are many who accuse Robert Spencer of being a hack, a shoddy researcher, a zealot, a fanatic, a hate-monger and much worse. He is none of those things. This book is a very reasonable examination of many teachings in the Koran which conflict with the basic values of Western societies. Admittedly, it is a critical examination of the Koran, but its tone is no more strident than many of the critical examinations of the Bible, Christianity or Judaism which routinely appear in print or on mainstream TV or cable channels like PBS, History Channel, Knowledge Network and the like.

I see there are several critical one star reviews on Amazon's web page for this book. I don't agree with any of these critics. I think this is a very interesting and reasonable book and have no trouble recommending it to others. Robert Spencer's work is certainly more intellectually rigorous than some current books on Christianity or Christian figures, such as Reza Aslan's current bestseller on Jesus.

The audiobook of this title is well done.
