This is a compilation of Fraser's three books chronicling the fortunes of Lieutenant Dand McNeill, McNeill's platoon, and the blot on the blasted heath known as Private McAuslan. The stories are based loosely on Fraser's own experiences in military service, and they make for an absolutely wonderful read. Some stories are thought-provoking, some are side-achingly funny, and most manage some combination thereof. One of my favourite collections of all time.
