If you grew up on Charlie Brown (and who didn't?) and bought the paperback books and reread them a hundred times, this is the series you've been waiting for. I have all the books that have been published so far from 1950 to 1970 something. Every original comic strip (including Sunday features) is included in an attractive, incredibly well-bound format. It is very clear to me that a lot of heart and care has gone into the making of this collection. Each book has an introduction from "celebrities" such as Whoopi Goldberg, Walter Cronkite, Matt Groening, Garrison Keillor sharing the impact of Charles Schulz's characters and creativity in their life. There is also an in-depth account of Schulz's own influences and life events reprinted at the end of each book. The size of the book is also well designed. Each thick book contains two years of comic strips, but is still easy to hold and read. What a gift I gave myself when I bought these! And the editors plan to keep on going until they reach the year 2000 and the whole body of Sparky Schulz's work is in our eager little hands to savour forever.

I love this series. It's in chronological order and also complete!
My only frustration is that a few of the box sets (hard to find) are being sold at ridiculously extravagant price!!
I guess I'll wait till they reprint.

HASH(0xa7a267e0) out of 5 stars About the whole series of "The Complete Peanuts" books Sept. 24 2007
By Amy - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
If you've not seen any of the books from this series and aren't sure about getting them, here's my advice: if you're a fan of the Peanuts comis strips, these books will become treasures to you -- buy them. They are absolutely beautifully made volumes (indeed, there is a certain whimsical, understated elegance about their presentation), and the reproductions of the strips are perfect. The first 4 volumes were a Christmas surprise for me a couple of years ago from my grandmother, and the latest volumes (I believe usually 2 per year) are now the Christmas presents I look forward to most. They are a true joy, and well more than worth the money. There's no need to comment on the strips themselves: they're the wonderful cartoons you remember (plus a whole bunch you may never have seen). For me, one of the greatest delights is being able to read the strips in the order in which they were first published, so as to contextualise them both within the narratives of the strips as a group and within their historical context (since, in the corner of each strip, is the day & month when it originally appeared).

These books are amongst my prized possessions, and will be from now on. I can't recommend them highly enough, and thank the publisher for putting such love and attention into their creation. And, of course (and most of all) thanks to good ol' Charles Schulz for writing them! The Complete Peanuts 1963-1966 Box SetThe Complete Peanuts 1959-1962 Box SetThe Complete Peanuts 1950-1954 Boxed Set

HASH(0xa7a36228) out of 5 stars Back in print - REVISED! Feb. 8 2013
By Video Steve - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
Fantagraphics books has told me this excellent boxed set will be reprinted tentatively on August 2013. There is no need to pay $300 for them. Fanatagraphics books is very vague, but they insist they're going to be reprinted and available here or on their website.

You can go to their website for their contact numbers and call them directly for more information.

Newest Update!

Even though it says 'temporarily out of stock', Amazon has fulfilled my order and the 1963-66 set has arrived. I'm sure when you order they will ship quickly.

Right now we face tough economic times and I've been looking to see how other generations got through them. I had been reading Chester Gould's 'Dick Tracy' (written in the heart of the great depression) and these Peanuts books are more than a welcome. 'Dick Tracy delved head long into the dark underworld of crime in the 1930's in an often violent and shocking manor. Clearly Chester Gould wanted to expose this seedy world for everyone to see and possibly evoke change. Although a cliff hanger and often creative, it is not a pleasant read.

Peanuts on the other hand makes light of the stress and problems we all feel and lets us know we'll get through them. We all have had someone pull the football out from under us and I'll bet more than one of us has a kite eating tree grinning at us as we walk by.

But that's part of life. And Charles Shultz, by putting his own problems on the page and laughing at them, left behind a legacy that will help generations face theirs.

Bless you Mr. Shultz.

As you can see, Amazon is now taking pre orders for this book. Aren't you glad you waited? An email I've received says my copy should arrive between August 1-5th BUT they have not shipped yet. My guess is, they will be shipping later than that but in the month of august.

The earlier volumes (1959-62) will follow soon according to Fantagraphics.

(July 11, 2013)

According to Fantagraphic Books, this 2 volume set will be available in mid to late August. (The single volumes are already available here.) Once again the have assured me they will be available here on Amazon as well. The man who answered the phone assured me these volumes were already at the printers NOW. So it looks like the boxed sets for both 59-62 and 63-66 will be for sale within a month.

They have been told I was adding this to my review and they're fine with passing this information on.

Please vote for this posting so it will move up in the listings and everyone can see this information. Thanks.

HASH(0xa7a36318) out of 5 stars Complete 2-book Set : Identical as the books sold separately only cheaper! March 26 2008
By Zaved - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
The Complete Peanuts is definitely complete! It's a real collectors' item!

Each book contains 2 complete years of Peanuts - the funniest comic strip of all time (IMHO). So this two-book set contains four complete years of Peanuts - all the strips that were published between 1963-1966.

Note that both books included in the boxed set are exactly the same ones that are sold separately. The books also contain full book jackets (i.e. if desired can be shelved separately). As of this review date it is cheaper to buy the two-book set than to buy them separately at Amazon and we get an added attractive slipcase with the two-book set.

Unfortunately the Sunday strips are in black and white - a minor gripe. However other such comic strip collections (including Calvin and Hobbs) have the Sunday ones in color.

(Note: I have essentially copied my review of the other peanuts sets for this one)

HASH(0xa7a36780) out of 5 stars Amazing collection Feb. 29 2008
By Riccardo Rurali - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This collection from Fantagraphics Comics is sooo beautiful! Besides having the whole Peanuts production, the box sets are collector items themselves with brilliant forwards and an overall excellent graphic packaging.
In one of the volume a note from the Editor explains how in the original of certain strip was damaged or lost and they had to reconstruct somehow. One strip out of 700 of that volume alone and it deserved an explanatory note! This just to give you an idea of how much carefulness and passion is behind this Peanuts collection.
A must!

HASH(0xa7a36864) out of 5 stars Love them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! July 16 2008
By 80s fan - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I love Peanuts it really got good by these years when they put in Peppermint Patty. I love when they talk to the readers like on 2/4/65 when Snoopy was gonna marry his skating girlfriend he said to the readers wish me luck, so cute. Great comics, and great books. I guess I should have put this review on the Complete Peanuts 1965-1966 but all the years are great. 1963 and 1964 are good years too.
