HASH(0x9fa201f8) out of 5 stars Everything You Need to Know About The Kindle March 22 2009
By Debbie Janssen - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I received a Kindle 1 as a birthday gift back in November and followed the simple Amazon directions to download books and then read them. This worked. However, when I went to the Amazon website and read conversations with people that were doing more with the Kindle than I could understand, I purchased Windwalker's book. His ad offered information about "more" ways to use this revolutionary toy and I wanted more. His first book opened the door to understanding how this not just a reader, but a mini computer capable of bringing a huge world of books and information to my fingertips. Now my Kindle experience was great.

By the time Kindle 2 came out, I was way hooked on this product, bought it and of course then immediately read his Kindle 2 information. Although I really enjoyed the struggle related to Kindle 1 (I have been working with computers since the early 80's) - his Kindle 2 book puts readers just a tiny click away from anywhere they want to go and any books they want to read on this marvelous machine. Now the experience was terrific.

Windwalker has made it easy to enjoy all the benefits of the Kindle 1 and 2. His advice and ideas are very valuable and the links are perfect. By the way, I'm a 73 year old woman and I find everything about this technology fantastic.

HASH(0x9f8f6294) out of 5 stars Pass on this "Beta version" March 2 2009
By D. Payne - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Apparently this hasn't gotten much past the step of changing the former title from Kindle to Kindle 2. There are some changes to the Kindle 2 system that aren't corrected in the book. Check the forums. Hopefully the author will get around to making the corrections.

Personally, I think it's lame to release a "Beta version" of a book anyway. Books shouldn't become like software. That's the slippery slope we get into with eBooks. It should either be finished and ready for release or not. Period.

Also, save your money and read the well-written manual that comes installed on your Kindle. There are lots of tips and tricks already in there.

HASH(0x9fa1a5e8) out of 5 stars Stephen Windwalker is my "go-to" guy March 23 2009

I ordered The Complete User's Guide to the Amazing Amazon Kindle II the same day I found out that my husband had ordered my Kindle. I had already relied on Stephen's advice for my original Kindle, and knew he would have excellent tips and explanations for the new version.
His included links turned out to be a double bonus. I refer to the book often, and really feel that it has enhanced my usage of the Kindle. This book really is a must have for any Kindle owner who wants to get the most of their ereader!

HASH(0x9fb1f3e4) out of 5 stars What You Already Know in Repetitive Prose April 19 2009
By CC - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Most of the information in this book is included in the free guide that was included on my new Kindle 2. The first half of the book reads like a an advertisement for the Kindle. The second half is like a beginner's guide to using the web. I am a happy new Kindle user, but I was not impressed with this guide.

The writing is generally more casual and entertaining than a typical user manual, but it's also poorly structured and puzzlingly repetitive at times. For example, the author explains how the Kindle 2 has two built-in speakers but also can be used with headphones in four different sections of the book. Do those count as 4 of the 500 alleged "tips and tricks"? Many other features of the Kindle are described several times in the book. This actually confused a new Kindle user like myself; at first I assumed I was accidentally hitting some button that caused me to re-read sections of the book.

This was not a pleasant book to read for that reason, but there will be some value for some users. The book contains a long list of web links (in desperate need of editing) that includes few helpful pointers to resources for free (public domain) e-books. This information will be helpful for many new e-book readers like myself, but it's also probably nothing that I could not have learned with a few web searches such as "free ebooks"

HASH(0xa045a144) out of 5 stars 1.99 rip off May 1 2009

Even at $1.99 it is a rip off. Nothing but links and some of them don't even work.

It says you can e-mail him for a list of the links which can be used from your computer. Don't waste your time asking for this; I have e-mailed 4 times and NEVER GOT A REPLY!!!!

Save your money; wish I had!!
