You owe it to yourself to read the Busiek/Nord run on Conan...breathtaking art, wonderful retelling of the original Howard tales. You feel like you're there with Conan in the City of Thieves...

HASH(0x9991ad38) out of 5 stars Superior to "The Chronicles..." Buy it! June 14 2007

I have the first 3 in this series:
The Frost Giant's Daughter And Other Stories, The God In The Bowl And Other Stories and The Tower Of The Elephant And Other Stories.

I find the artwork to be superior to the "Chronicals of Conan", and there is always at least one original Howard tale included in these books. The "Other Stories" stand up very well to the Howard adventures. They are very much in the same spirit and style, and are fitting tributes.
So far all have been extremely enjoyable, and I plan to purchase the rest of them.
I only buy what I like (as opposed to collecting for its own sake), and I like this!!

Great for new readers and old Conan fans alike!

Purchased this for my partner after we had a long stint playing AoC when it first started up (before it degraded and we lost interest over time), then started running our own homebrew RPGs based in Howard's world, and reading all of Howard's original stories of the same. These first series with Kurt teamed up with great, gritty art style are great. Later on in the series it degrades in quality, both in writing and incredibly so in art at a few points, but I'm hoping eventually it'll pick up again and mirror the style of art and writing used in these beginning volumes, because they are second to none!

Wow! Not unlike the two previous volumes, this new Conan series is a real treasure of art. Cary Nord's rich fluid line work gracefully captures this long running characters world with otherworldly visuals where he really creates a haunting & beautiful new dark age. Cary Nord along with comic scribe Kurt Busiek further extend The Conan universe once devised by graphic fiction architects like Frank Frazetta, Roy Thomas, John Buscema, & Barry Windsor Smith. Kurt Busiek does an outstanding job in adapting Robert E. Howard's stories for the comic book format & thankfully Darkhorse has taken the reigns on this series with serious precision, & so far it doesn't let down. Conan's a real winner in terms of smart & intriguing storytelling with equally stunning art thus proving to be the perfect alternative to the numerous Marvel & DC titles out there every month (or week). Great stuff within these pages.

Still deciding between this and God in The Bowl for my favorite of the Dark Horse Conan Volumes. This is Conan at his best, and finally we get our adaptation of Tower of the Elephant and Busiek and Nord don't dissapoint! Cary Nords art has such kinetic energy, the battle scenes are amazing. Absolutley a must have for the die hard and casual fan alike!

HASH(0x98b0b66c) out of 5 stars Busiek and Nord do it again! Oct. 20 2008
By Parker - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
The Tower of the Elephant continues the great tradition of Dark Horse's Conan relaunch which began in the last two volumes.
In this volume, Conan hits his stride as a professional thief and we are treated to three prequel chapters setting up the "Tower of the Elephant" short story from Conan creator Robert E. Howard, a story which solidifies Conan's reputation in criminal circles.
Minor flaws for this book are a dip in quality in the first part of Tower (chapter 4) where Cary obviously is falling behind and sketches his way through about 12 pages worth of story, and although it is always nice to see Mike Kaluta draw something, I would much prefer to see Mr. Nord draw the flashback sequence himself.
Still a fine book and worth your time.
