Product Description

Some people seek out connections. Jack Contino does it for a living. A cop knows how to link people and events. Maria Falcone connects people and places: the city of Boston, a rural New Hampshire college town, a Boston hit man, a college professor . . .

Jack Contino is a veteran cop with the Metropolitan District Commission Police Department. He often works with the FBI; a gangland massacre puts him in pursuit of a killer, but the trail takes an unexpected turn.

Maria connects by leading a double life: college coed during the week; high priced call girl on weekends. A professor loves her. A mobster uses her. Her future depends on one of them.

Ben Secani learned to kill for his country in Vietnam and finds opportunity in the Boston Mob.

The action puts these people on a collision course, and the result changes their lives forever.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Entry to Boston Noir Dec 7 2012

Steven Marini has added a good first novel entry to the world of Boston based crime noir. He does an excellent job of capturing the time periods and locations of greater Boston. I found the characters interesting and believable and the events could come right from today's headlines. The recent revelations regarding the Winter Hill Gang and Whitey Bulger add validity to Marini's world of 1970's cops and mobsters.

I'm an avid reader of mysteries and crime/police stories. I truly enjoyed this book. Its title aptly hints at the many connections that bring the cast of very interesting characters together. Set in New England, the story also evoked many memories of my time spent in Boston and the surrounding area. I hope we see more of this author and his dectective Jack Contino soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dot-connecting of a mastermind March 30 2013
By Sugeroeret - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Steve Marini's "Connections" is the first detective novel in what will supposedly be an ongoing series of books featuring the bright headed and charismatic veteran cop, Jack Contino. With a mid-70s Boston underground setting inhabited by mob-associated crooks and crooked cops the reader is will be in for a treat full of flying bullets and detective work in world class.

In this novel Jack Contino is set to solve the case of 4 men who have been executed point blank range at a late night poker game. With only the thinnest possible traits to follow our main character is led through a world in which he encounters fascinating individuals like the beautiful Maria Falcone, who balances on the edge of a knife with her tragic past on one side and the hopes of a better life on the other.

The wide variety of interesting and beautifully portrayed characters and the way the connections and relations between them are so intelligently intertwined serves as the main cord of this thrilling page-turner. This is where Marini really demonstrates his high value as a writer of exiting crime novels.

All in all, a great read for any fan of mystery based novels and one that won't take long to read due to the fact that you just can't put it aside!
