I then discovered this screen and gave it a try.
SO GLAD THAT I DID!!! And so glad i went the screen route and NOT the plastic slats route.
I was worried this would make my fenced and yard look like a construction site. NOT THE CASE. When this screen is placed onto the "inside" of your fence, NOT onto the outside facing passerby's, but onto the inside ONLY, then from the outside to passerby's this screen looks very classy. Does not appear to be a screen at all from the outside looking in. More like some sort of classy and neat looking darkened chain fence. Maybe it is the outside chain up against the inside screen that gives this an appealing look to passerby's. And while it is not solid light blocking, it is still VERY HARD to see thru into during full daylight. This screen does offer MUCH more light blocking than I ever expected. If kids were playing inside your yard or the dogs, passerby's WOULD NOT be able to tell anyone was inside the yard. Many round metal copper? attachment rings scattered all along the top, bottom, up and down the left and right far ends. This is a ONE PIECE screen material with sealed ends all along the entire screen where the copper rings are contained. This screen is NOT meant to be cut or altered. My only suggestion to the manufacturers would be with adding some round metal rings in the center sections of the screen as well to allow attachment onto the fence center midlevel sections for even better wind control and screen stability in a storm. Time will only tell how this screen holds up to wind and harsh weather. But once up, the screen looks extremely nice and classy IF one mounts the screen onto the "inside" of their fence, not on the outer side visible to passerby's. Mount on the inside for a classy private looking, very view blocking, screen. I ordered yet another 50 foot screen to complete and enclose my entire fence. Used twisty ties to attach screen to fence top bar, side bars, and bottom of fence chain where no bars are present. Then I attached a few more twisty ties along the same top screen rings and looped around the top chain part of fence just under and along the top bar, just to ensure the screen does not slide back and forth along the top bar in the wind. Screen should stay put. This screen, from the outside looking in, does give a very nice privacy look to passerby's. People outside looking in will not know this is a screen. All they can tell is that something unknown inside your chain fence is blocking their viewing into your yard. I ordered the BLACK color, but I expect the GREEN color would be very nice looking just as well IF ONLY attached onto the INSIDE of your fence. I would not worry about the need to double this screen. One screen alone provides more than enough privacy, even in full daylight. Well, that is the black color does.
Update 9/17/13: I've had these up for a while now, so I can say they last. The stitching is still hanging in there, none have let go or unraveled. The grommets have rusted up quite a bit, but they're all still there. I can also add that they're pretty rip resistant, as one of my horses thinks he needs to chew holes in it. What he gets started does not unravel any further than his direct damage. When you double it up it does block a lot more, but you can still see through it (not very well but enough) it doesn't totally block everything out. I'm still very pleased with my purchases.
This worked very well and was easy to install. Only thing is if you look closely, there is writing woven in the fabric, if you don't look closely, you won't even notice it. I would purchase this item again.
Update: it's been 8 months and the fencing has held well and looks great.
