Crucial MX100 SATA 2.5" 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal Solid State Drive
The choice between speed and capacity is over. Choose both.

Traditionally, SSDs have offered powerful speeds and extra features, but at a high cost per gigabyte. Enter the Crucial MX100 SSD. Leveraging years of R&D and the latest NAND technology, the Crucial MX100 offers a low cost per GB, combined with unrelenting performance and one of the most complete feature sets available.

Micron quality - a higher level of reliability.

As a brand of Micron, one of the largest flash storage manufacturers in the world, the Crucial MX100 is backed by the same quality and innovation that has produced some of the world's most advanced memory and storage technologies. With over a thousand hours of prerelease validation testing and hundreds of SSD qualification tests, the Crucial MX100 has been thoroughly tried, tested, and proven. Make the switch to the Crucial MX100 SSD and start outlasting and outperforming your hard drive.

Feature-packed capacity. Proven reliability.

The Crucial MX100 provides plenty of cost-effective storage for your photos, music, videos, and documents - all while backing your data with a higher level of reliability than a hard drive or competing SSD. Note:1 GB = 1 billion bytes. Actual usable capacity may vary.

Run your system longer than ever before - using less power.

With Extreme Energy Efficiency technology, the Crucial MX100 is up to 89% more energy efficient than a typical hard drive.*

*Hard drive active average power use based on published specs of 1TB Western Digital Blue WD10JPVX internal hard drive. According to NPD data published February 2014, this was one of the most popular hard drives available and an accurate reflection of a common internal hard drive.

Attain consistently fast speeds without compromising the reliability of your data.

Our engineers created RAIN technology to protect your data at the component level, similar to how RAID is used with multiple hard drives. This enterprise-class technology increases the security and protection of your data to a level that's rarely available in consumer-class SSDs.

Keep your memories, photos, and files safe.

When a photo or file gets corrupted, it often becomes unusable. Prevent this from happening in the first place with the Crucial MX100 SSD, which arms every storage component with four layers of Exclusive Data Defense to guard against corrupt files.

Push your drive to the limit and avoid overheating.

Adaptive Thermal Protection technology enables the Crucial MX100 to dynamically adjust storage component activity based on how you're using the drive, allowing your system to stay cool and react to changes in use.

Do more - faster.

Get true 550 MB/s sequential reads on both compressible and incompressible data - and leave your old 177 MB/s hard drive in the dust.**

**Performance level based on comparative AS SSD benchmark ratings of 512GB Crucial MX100 SSD and 1TB Western Digital Blue 7200 RPM hard drive (WD10EZEX-00U). Actual performance levels may vary based on benchmark used and individual system configuration. Test setup: Intel DZ87KLT-75K motherboard, Intel i7-4770K 3.50GHz processor, BIOS Rev. 0446, and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit operating system using AS SSD test suite.

Save and transfer files in seconds rather than minutes.

Our exclusive Native Write Acceleration technology spreads the drive's workload across several elements, enabling you to write data in seconds rather than minutes.

Wow... Replaced the hard drive in my daughter's laptop with this. What a huge difference. She has a Toshiba Satellite C600D, 1.6 Dual Core AMD, 2Gb Ram, 500Gb WD Scorpio Blue (5400RPM). Boot time went from 4 minutes to just over a minute, programs open faster, machine shuts down faster, everything is faster! The drive is not running at SATA III speeds due to the fact that the motherboard doesn't support SATA III speeds, but the drive works fine (backwards compatible with SATA II) and is still way faster than the original drive. Sorry, no speed test results, I didn't perform any because I was more than happy with the difference in speed (For what it's worth, WEI for hdd transfer went from 5.9 to 7.7). I cloned the old drive using the included download of Acronis True Image HD 2014, took about 20 minutes in all (she only had about 43Gb on her drive). Breathed new life into an older laptop so I won't have to shop for a new one for a while. Will definitely buy another for my computer, but probably 512Gb.

This drive has been great except for one flaw. I have used it in two laptops (one Lenovo Thinkpad, one HP) and both have occasionally shown the same problem.

The drive sometimes goes to sleep with the laptop and fails to wake up. At this point the laptop cannot boot (if this is the boot drive) which is acary and annoying. The only way to wake it when this happens is to remove all batteries and wait for a few minutes before booting. So far the drive has always woken up eventually but I don't trust it.

I disabled all hard disk power saving features and updated the drivers. This might have helped a little, but the problem still happens. Many people on Crucial support forums have had the same issues, with no other fixes discovered.

It was selling for almost the same price as the older, slower and purportedly less reliable MX 500.
While apparently the writing speeds aren't as fast as the Samsung equivalent, you would be hard pressed to notice any difference (especially if you are used to HDDs).

My only quibble was with the installation instructions. While it truly is a plus & play installation (I installed it into a portable enclosure) and even the least computer savvy could install it, I did want to know wether it's best to stick the adapter to the drive itself or to the enclosure in case it has some anti-static properties. The document in the box suggested I go to the Crucial website, and so I did. I found my model number, clicked on the install PDF and.....nothing. Well, nothing outside of a warning stating that the document is not available.

I've used countless Crucial products over the years without anything as much of a hiccup, hence the rating....but in this case, I just hope that this was a coding error and not a storage failure or something. But wouldn't it be ironic ;)

I didn't think there was much of a difference with SSD's until I tried this one. I normally buy cheaper Samsung Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E250B/AM) and SanDisk SanDisk Extreme PRO 240GB SATA 6.0GB/s 2.5-Inch 7mm Height Solid State Drive (SSD) With 10-Year Warranty- SDSSDXPS-240G-G25 but when the SanDisk failed on me I decided to try something different. My Windows Experience Index when from a 5.4 to a 7.8 because of the drive. everything just seems faster now. Maybe the difference was the SanDisk failing I don't know but who wants to buy another drive that failed on them. Not me. I needed more space as the 250GB I was always juggling files now its nice to have some breathing room.

bought as a new hard drive to stick in my hard drive and install my operating system on along with frequently used programs. Has been running perfect for a year. Functions exactly as you would expect an SSD to function. Fast read and write speeds. Computer boots up in seconds. I no longer have time to make myself a coffee while my computer boots up! Highly recommended to buy. Don't throw extra money at the more expensive name brand SSDs. For most people this is more than enough!

This has been the best purchase, $/value, that I have made in a very long time. My early-2011 Macbook Pro 15" now feels like a new machine, faster than most brand-new laptops on-market today. Bootup time is now ~15s, whereas before it used to take a full 3-4 minutes (I have 120,000 Dropbox files which are synchronized by Dropbox every time my computer boots, as well as many other startup apps). I also have Windows 8 installed via Bootcamp, and Windows just flies along.

This drive also really improved performance where I least expected it: virtual machines. I thought that VMs were heavily reliant on RAM more than disk speeds based on my performance monitoring of RAM and IO usage, but the virtual machine experience on my computer has gone from somewhat usable to almost-native performance. I am extremely happy.

Summary: this is the best drive you can get for the size and speed. Don't even consider the Samsung (EVO) SSDs's; while they are competitive pricewise, they don't have the same IO speeds. The Samsung Pro's match this Crucial drive (and are perhaps a bit better performance-wise), but the Pro's cost way more. The Crucial is the best value choice.
