Very simply, this is the best upgrade I've ever made to any device. My aging notebook is running better & faster than ever, programs load in a flash, and a reboot now completes in a fraction of the time it took when the machine was brand-new. Where Crucial really shines though, is in their excellent (and patient) product support team. While support for other brands has ranged from fine to...challenging, Crucial was always more than eager to help. I first contacted the company to check the suitability of this drive for a SATA2 notebook with a moderately slow bus,and the rep pulled the specs of my somewhat rare notebook model & gave men an honest assessment of the benefits of this particular model. During installation I ran into a problem with the Acronis disk cloning software, and their techs carefully guided me through a series of options until I was finally able to successfully clone the drive with Aomei Backupper instead of Acronis. Rarely has any company made me feel as secure & just generally good about a purchase as has Crucial.
Well after 4 months the drive crashed, now what? No way to return to crucial according to their website - will Amazon cover it, not sure - will give it a try and update this again later.
And I did get a replacement to try from Amazon, same thing with the second drive. This is clearly a manufacturing defect, and you should expect to have the same issue with all of these drives.
One big con: The "free" Acronis software you can download is straight up useless crippleware. If you want to do a fresh install of Windows you are fine and won't need anything except your Windows install media but if you want to migrate it's a big hassle. Acronis will ONLY do a full drive migration and does NOT support migrating only your windows partition unless you buy the full version. It also installs 2 autorun services when you install the software. Why do you need that crap installed for a program you will probably only ever use once?
After a bunch of googling and trying two programs that would not work I found AOMEI Partition Assistant. Did the migration job and then I used it to delete the old windows partition and resize my storage partition to use all of that drive.
