We cook quite a bit and this would be our second dedicated food processor, replacing a much lighter Braun (~25 years old).

Pros:
Solid
Fast
Quiet
Intuitive
Large

Cons:
Quite bulky in the dishwasher (the flip-side of being large)
Discs that came are not the same as the ones pictured. They do not have the finger holes for holding.
Discs leave behind quite a bit of material. I'm going to verify that we have the right size of blade since uncut material escaped over the edge.

I'd recommend this whole-heartedly if the discs worked better.

Also, I wish that we had spent more time comparing between this one and the 14 cup unit. We went for the 12 cup because we were concerned about the space. But for $20 more (on sale right now) the 14 cup seems like a whole lot more, and the extra real estate may have been worth it.

Update 2014/01/14

The discs that shipped with are supposed to be the right ones. After more experimenting around we are quite disappointed in this, and I consider it a design flaw. Basically every carrots leaves behinds a 3-4 inch by about 3/8 inch chunk.

On the other hand, in our experimentation, we did puréed guacamole and we were quite pleased with it. Usually we just mash it and find it to be good for about 1/2 day (with an acid like lime juice or white wine vinegar). In this case, the puréed guacamole was still "fresh" over a day later.

Recently I went to a raw and vegan cooking class for fun and the chef recommended at least a 10 cup food processor with a powerful motor. This food processor had that and more. I have only had this machine for a month and I use it almost every day. I encourage you to watch the accompanying DVD because of the great tips and awesome recipes. In our household we go through a lot of produce and this has made food preparation so much faster and enjoyable. Making sweet potato fries is done in seconds. With carrots you can slice, shred or make sticks instantly. Pureeing soup and making smooth hummus is so easy. We make date balls, cole slaw, and slicing peppers works great as well. The blades are so sharp and spin so fast it doesn't mush them at all. I have even thinly sliced raw meat for stir fry even though I was reluctant to try it but it worked like a charm for stir fry. A great investment for any kitchen.

honestly look no further, It does everything you want it to do

cons:

- while grating, small bits of the veggie gets trapped between the grater attachment and the top.

- blade stains so clean after use

- unit jumps to the left every time the unit is started

As you can see, not many substantial cons.

I got this Cuisinart based on the reviews and the fact that my mother still has the same one that's been there for all of my childhood with some minor esthetic things broken and the switch no longer working (just plug it in to turn it on...). This new food processor has some serious design flaws. Some reviews had mentioned them but I thought they were nitpicking given all the other positive reviews.

The worst flaw: it can turn on even if the lid is not on properly, meaning flour or liquid jumping out the back. You need to press two side buttons to unlock the lid which seem flimsy. I'll be very surprised if this lasts five years.

Also, the plunger is clear and hollow with a flimsy "rod" to activate the mechanism. Again, I doubt this will last.

The smaller "bowl" meant for smaller jobs is a bit useless as it still gets the big bowl a bit dirty, meaning you have two things to wash instead of one.

In terms of strengths, it is strong and fairly quiet. I just wish they'd put as much thought in the plastic components as they did on the blade and mechanism. I'd exchange this for a "new" 30 year old model in a heartbeat.

I waited an entire year of using this thing at least once a month before I wrote this. I'm actually surprised at the number of "cons" people listed in their reviews they still gave it a lot of stars..... Anyhow this thing is a nightmare to clean!!! It has a bunch of grooves and tight spaces that are very difficult to get to without some specialized scrub brushes and tooth picks....Also the top where you put the food in is a stupid design as well. Food keeps falling past the opening into a reservoir on either side unless you're super careful, then you have to take the whole top off and get some long handled spoon to fish the stuff out and put it where you wanted it in the first place. It seems super flimsy to me and I can see that stupid rod thing that is supposed to prevent operation when the lid is not on snapping rendering the device in operable. I've owned one other food processors in my life and this one is my least favourite, unfortunately they just don't seem to make food processors like they did 20 years ago.

Just bought this off Amazon.ca - although we've only had it for a couple weeks, we have used it a lot mainly for chopping and pureeing soup. Surprised how quiet it is, and happy that it can hold so much stuff. The only thing I wish was that it came with some sort of case to hold all of the accessories, the blades are really sharp so not ideal to stuff in a drawer or something. The other thing is that it is really heavy, so we have just kept it on the countertop instead of always putting it away and pulling it back out.
