    I have just been diagnosed with high blood pressure, but it is not so high that I need medication. The doctor recommended the DASH diet. I have bought a few of Gina Crawford's books before and really like them so I bought this one. She does an excellent job of explaining the DASH diet and why it should be used. It is broken into easy to understand and follow chapters with a ton of information! Also included is a list of foods you should eat along with a 7 day meal plan and also how to use this diet for weight loss.

    This is a great primer for anyone getting into the DASH diet. Plenty of information about the common food groups. Plus the recipes are very helpful. They are designed to be made fast and painlessly, even if you’re a cooking novice. Overall this is a good book for anyone getting into DASH dieting.

    Even though this is a diet book geared toward Dash Diet beginners, I still found it to be disappointing. As a basic guide to the Dash Diet, and its benefits, I question the accuracy of some of the information in the meal planning section. For example, several of the calorie counts listed were lower than in other resources. I was also surprised to see apple juice and grape juice used as appropriate food choices. Both are full of fructose and calories, and they lack fiber. It is better to replace these juices with actual fruits in any well-rounded diet. The Dash Diet is a top-rated choice for healthy eating, but I plan to look at other sources for more information.

    BEWARE! This book is written by a non-professional with NO expertise in this diet. The author just tries to summarize the DASH diet concepts from easily accessible FREE online resources. There are factual errors (drink 8 glasses of water a day, a serving of meat is 1 oz,, [should be 3 oz of meat per serving] - and more errors). This is clearly a self-published book. The author rambles at times. There are grammatical errors. "A lot" is overly used. So, clearly no professional editing. The layout is amateurish - page numbers on the wrong side of the page on left hand pages, type font way too large for common readability, not one picture, drawing, graph, or any visual of any kind is included. The point being, the unprofessional basics makes one question the professional quality of the content. I would not recommend purchasing this book. There are much better resources free online, or purchase a book by a medical professional.

    Normally I read the one star reviews even if the overall review rating looks good. I must have forgot to do that with this purchase. I agree with all the one star reviews. The written part of the book was useless but it would have been very worthwhile if I could have used some of the recipes. None of them looked very tasty, the mixture of ingredients didn't look right, I don't think they had been tested prior to throwing together into the book. I didn't waste a lot of money on the book; but I did waste a lot of money on the recipe ingredients that I had to throw out.
