I picked this movie because it looked lonely on Amazon Instant Watch... let's see how it goes!

* Less than a minute in, a dude is getting his head very slowly hacked off. Jeeze.

* 2:00 minutes - it's a website that's only online a couple of weeks out of the year....? technically possible I suppose.

* 5:25 - another graphic death... reminds me somewhat of the 'Saw' franchise. That same vague disconnected feeling of WTH? that leaves you not quite knowing why or how things are happening.

* 11:30 - yet another death scene; not terribly well done but psychologically painful at least.

So, in summary, I stand by my previous comparisons to Saw. It's rather perverse in nature but has a certain psychological element to it that can make it entertaining. If you enjoy grim and gory and don't mind subtitles then this will work for you.

HASH(0x9e9d6210) out of 5 stars Where do I begin with this one... Feb. 21 2015

I just spent the better of an hour and a half watching this... and rewatching parts.

To put it into plain words, the plotline is akin to that of Saw's. Basically a bunch of strangers get thrown into a type of game where they are being monitored and are required to go through overly elaborate tasks. One after another, a character dies... Meanwhile, a bunch of sicko internet junkies watch this live snuff film through a website called "Death Tube" that according to the show, only goes online every few weeks making it a "rare" website that authorities don't have an ice cube's chance in hell to put a stop to.

It was a bit predictable and seemed like a low budget flick. It was gory where it needed to be but the blood effects weren't consistent. Speaking of consistency, the blood at one point had the consistency of watered down grapefruit juice. I sort of watched it for the somewhat lousy effects because they at least gave me a good laugh.

Between each of the so called tasks (again, overly elaborate and kind of lame: We have a hopscotch, donut eating field day sort of deal, then a rubik's cube solving deal that surprisingly many of them are able to solve. Am I just a confounded idiot who has never solved a rubik's cube before or did they throw all the realism out the window?) the characters task themselves with figuring out the truth behind why they were brought into the game. They go through the motions of finding some sort of connection... blah blah blah, the usual horror flick deal. Anyways, the show's "mascot" the main antagonist happens to be some cartoon bear with underlings who are dressed up in bear costumes themselves. Reminds me a great deal of DanganRonpa. Anyhow, the bears would go into some sort of metronome like dance during the time the characters would solve each puzzle.

The characters themselves... not a whole lot of sides to them. There's a rowdy angry fellow, a couple of regular looking guys, an pampered up older lady, a young woman who is a bit airheaded, a quiet fellow who is brainy and the main character, a glasses wearing man who is soon to be married. Not a whole lot of backstory. If anything, they're like chess pieces. I guess, if anything anyone interested in this show would be interested in it for the gore and slaughtering (which again weren't all that impressive) rather than character development.

Overall, I wouldn't take this movie too seriously. Watch it if you can, but there's no crime in taking a miss because there's a whole slew of better horror and Japanese films out there. If you're strictly looking for Japanese films with a bit of mystery in them, I'd recommend Elevator Trap.
HASH(0x99a49834) out of 5 stars poor acting and characters are not interesting July 10 2015

There's something to be said when you've finished the movie and you're relieved that it ended and couldn't care less if the main character died or not.. That is how i felt watching this nearly 2 hrs long film with a snuff film plot line that dragged on and on. The characters were poorly depicted as you never really grow to like any of them and the majority were on the borderline of annoying and their acting was sub par. The main character was whining and crying all the time and it was becoming a pain to watch it until the end. It tries to be one of those films with a great twist, but in reality it doesn't go anywhere and the ending leaves the question of who's the mastermind behind it all left unanswered.

Awful movie. Bad acting, poor production values, lame story. The best thing about this movie is the poster. Just a Japanese saw ripoff. Even the weapon props looked like Halloween costume items. I love some gory cheeses horror but this was awful. Better off watching something like "would you rather".
