But the real reason for my purchase: the large pens. I love them. I had a similar one that came with my case, but I sadly lost it. After going for a while without, I decided I needed to replace it. Now I have three!
Not only do they have additional length/size, but they also have a very nice weight to them. You do not have to put extra pressure on the touch pad to get a response, which you usually do with the standard-size styli. This may not be a big deal to some people, but if you have any problems with your hands (arthritis, CTS, repetitive motion/stress injuries, etc. -- even just inconveniently shaky hands) those little "pushes" add up pretty quickly.
Even if you don't have such problems, these are an inexpensive alternative to the provided touch pens with any DS system, which can certainly help you (or your child) from causing injury to their hands. (You're never too young to pay attention to ergonomics.) And losing one of these on the go won't dent your wallet in a big way.
I think these could be very nice for young children (I'm thinking the 2DS demographic) since they have a loop at the top and can be attached to the game system itself so that they don't lose the pen, and also because it is a bit too large to get stuck somewhere unfortunate, such as nostrils. But you may want to remove the pocket-clip.
The smaller styli (that can be stored inside the DS) are NOT the same length as the XL originals. They are, in fact, the same length as DS lite and DSi styli. They fit perfectly into the DSXL's stylus slot, however. It's not a big difference (half an inch, maybe?) but I just wanted to make it clear to anyone who might think they're getting the hard-to-find XL-length stylus - that's not what it is.
You get 3 sets, as pictured, packaged in a clamshell that you'll probably need scissors to open. I paid $6 for this, not a bad deal at all, compared to most places that are loathe to sell you a replacement DS stylus without ALSO selling you a screen protecter, game cases, and other silly unwanted accessories, for $10 or more.
I gave these a 5/5 because I believe they are the best two types of stylus out there for the Nintendo 3DS handheld console.
I would recommend these to anyone.
I wish Nintendo still made the original stylus pens for the DS lite and DSi systems as they are of much higher quality. These will do the job but they are cheaply made.
When I purchased my DSXL years ago, it came with the slide-in mini-stylus (made for smaller hands, but not me) and a matching pen sized larger stylus, which is all I ever used. When Nintendo came out with my favorite game available only for the 3DS-XL, I had to sell my DSXL and buy the 3DS-XL. I sold the large stylus with the unit and bought the 3DSXL. I was quite disappointed when I discovered they didn't include the pen-sized stylus, I was happy to find this 3 pack of the large & reg sized stylus. I leashed one to my DS, gave one to my adult daughter and the third is still in the pkg waiting to see where it will make its new home.
If you're an adult who wears mag-readers to see the screens, this larger pen sized stylus might be just what you need to make playing on the XL easier. (And I used a gold gift elastic to leash it to the device...it works & I never lose it!!)
