I've been a fan of Billy Idol since I was a kid - I'm 32 now and I still can't get enough of him. When I heard he was coming out with his autobiography I was excited but, to be honest, I wasn't expecting much because how good of a writer could this man possibly be? Oh man, how wrong I was. This memoir was excellent and I seriously consider it one of the best rock bios I've ever read (and I've read a fair few of them).

It was honest, it was powerful, it made me laugh out loud numerous times and it took be back to my childhood and my youth. Billy Idol studied literature when he was at school and it shows; his writing style is so vivid and fluid and extremely easy to follow. I felt like I was sitting down with him, having a chat the whole time! I devoured this book very quickly - in a couple of sittings - and I never wanted it to end.

I had pre-ordered my copy of DANCING WITH MYSELF a couple of weeks ago and, despite the fact it hasn't been officially released yet, my copy arrived in my mailbox late last week (thanks Indigo!). So, if any of you are debating purchasing this book and worrying that you'd have to wait weeks for it to arrive, fear not! Do yourself a favour and order it now because, chances are, you'll thank your lucky stars afterwards.

It was a real treat and I can't wait to listen to Idol's new album coming out in Fall 2014.

I started reading this e-book two days ago and only part way through it I'm amazed at Billy's ability to vividly recall his childhood upbringing and how his life was influenced by so many people as he progressed through his teenage years. I read before I bought this how well he wrote this book, but frankly it is an understatement. Who knew a punk rock kid from Bromley, England (amount numerous other places) could write so eloquently and with obvious passion for how life has treated him? I so look forward to reading the remainder of this on my flight home from a business trip. Great job Billy and rock on!

Billy Idol's memoirs don't have to come with a warning label. You obviously know what you're gonna get : sex, drugs and rock & roll, for better or worse. "Dancing With Myself" has lots of those, but - with the exception of a few inspiring moments of lucidity - fails to deliver anything else. It might be shocking and intriguing to read page after page of the so-called rock and roll lifestyle, but it also gets repetitive and boring after a while. The writing is just okay, and his descriptions of sexual encounters mostly feel like the work of a thirteen year old kid attempting to write a porn movie script. His description of his addictive ways is somehow more arresting, if only for the fact that he manages to make the reader feel how much everything eventually revolved around getting the next fix, regardless of the consequences. This is, however, a story that's been told too many times, and by much better writers. For diehard fans only.

Like most of the folks who have written reviews of Dancing With Myself, I have been a fan of Billy Idol`s forever and have always loved the energy and danceability of his songs.
I had a chance to see him in concert recently and have been listening alot to his new album Kings and Queens of the Underground.
His book is a really interesting read - intelligent, humorous, brutally honest. It was great to read about how his songs came into being - especially those on the latest album which is still vintage Billy Idol but with alot of wisdom and grace mixed in. I think what really emerges from the book is a guy not afraid to chronicle a life lived full on. He writes with surprising depth and sensitively and I found it quite impossible to put down.

What a book. You can' get better than something actually written by the Artist. An excellent read (so far). Still reading it but well worth the money. Been a follower of Billy since he started. Hope I get him to sign it at his concert :)
