HASH(0xa4831ee8) out of 5 stars Fun college romance Aug. 25 2015
By Jessica from Maine Book Momma - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
The premise of this series is incredibly fun. Three wealthy, attractive playboys who are all best friends are going to have their feet knocked right out from beneath them by a little thing called love. The first book was awesome (I loved Shep!!) so I was desperately waiting for In the Dark - Gabe and Lucy's story. I was slightly worried that I would not like it as much as I did Fair Game. But I was wrong. I LOVED Gabe. He constantly surprised me and his romance with Lucy made me smile.

Every summer, Gabe is required to spend time with his family. He usually endures the time drinking and sleeping his way through the local female population - taking nothing seriously because his life is already planned for him. He will work in the family business. He will marry the appropriate woman and not only will she be 'perfect' but she will also bring some sort of beneficial social or business connection for the Walker family. The idea of it all makes he miserable.

So when Gabe starts spying on the hottie who lives in the house beside their vacation home, he just thinks it will be another fling. He has no clue that his heart has found his mate and there will be no other choice but to surrender to it.

Lucy is the girl next door and she is nothing like Gabe assumed she is. Funny and kind - you instantly like her. Plus she doesn't fall over herself to get Gabe's attention even though her heart pounds in her chest whenever he is near. As their romance blooms, you're quickly enchanted by the couple. You are quickly caught up in their sexual chemistry and passion. It is intense and exciting.

But both Gabe and Lucy have secrets hanging over their heads. You are anticipating the moment that their truths are revealed - that Gabe can only marry someone his family deems worthy and that Lucy's life is nothing like the image he has painted in his head. Reality finds them both when they return to university in the fall. When it all falls apart, you're holding your breath. Hopeful that they can work it all out and find their happily ever after together.

Monica Murphy's In the Dark captured the feeling of being young and how it felt to have a summer romance that was suddenly so much more. It was spectacular. I highly suggest you read it as well as the other books in this series.

HASH(0xa4831f3c) out of 5 stars Gabe and Lucy have a great story Aug. 26 2015

Format: Kindle Edition
Yay and angsty , dual POV read !! One of my favorite kinds. I will admit I did not read Fair Game YET , but I definitely will now !! This book could almost be divided into 2 parts , the first almost 50% is the summer fling , the let loose we will never see each other again so we can lie and act out of character !! The next 50% is the oh crap is that really you , weeks later , same school , still harbouring feelings and what the heck do we do about it !! I have to say the first half moved a little slow for me. I enjoyed their interactions and getting their stories BUT I was kind of impatient for what came next. You already now that if or when they get together their families will cause some kind of issues. Gabe's family was the rich type , wanting more for him , the proper girl , the business merger. Lucy's mom was a tad overprotective assuming Lucy would never be with a guy because it was dangerous and so Lucy lived in fear of having sex. So we are set up to look forward to the angst and drama of Lucy's lies and Gabe's family drama !!

Gabe pervs on Lucy for quite some time that summer before he builds up the courage to go talk to her. I guess if you had known Gabe from Fair Game you would know this was totally unlike him. The one and done rule , the girls throwing themselves at him and his friends. He assumes Lucy is on summer vacation , coming from money like him yet that is not her story. We know her story and we watch her spin the web of lies to protect herself from a let down. After weeks of spending time and forming this amazing bond they decide to take things to another level , as kind of their goodbye. It was super hot yet super sad to know this was the end of the road for their magical summer. Now miles and miles apart , trying to avoid each others texts and their own desires they both attempt to forget the amazing summer and move on with school. Here is where it got good for me !! The run in , the confessions , the ease of their reconnect. They have such a great chemistry , it is HOT !! But how long can they go with secrets between them , the struggles of real life , the family meddling. Hop on this rollercoaster and although it moves at a lightening pace it is still enjoyable to go through the angsty emotional journey with Gabe and Lucy !!

I look forward to Tristan's story and of course I plan to go back and read Shep's.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and was excited to read this one. Gabe is a total player in the first book. Once and done. And the whole watching Shep fall for Jade - he didn't want any of that. But then he spends the summer with Lucy.

It starts from him watching her and moves to him not able to resist her. They have an interesting kinda fling for the summer. But Luce is lying to him. I always struggle when a character is lying. And it was the same here. I didn't really see the need for her lying. She's not got money. She's housesitting. What will he do if he finds out? She's expecting things to be a fling anyway, I just don't get what the difference would be.

I did like that she had some body image issues. He's constantly telling her how much he loves her curves but she's always trying to loose weight. That part felt real and important to me.

Loved Gabe. He's fighting the falling thing tooth and nail but once he realizes that he really does want a relationship with Luce, he chases after her. And these two are hot together.

Then the story shifts to be back at college and their reaction to seeing each other again was a bit surprising. I loved the way Gabe reacted not so much with Luce.

The rest of the story felt just okay. A kinda perdictable issue comes up for them. I wasn't surprised at all. It did feel like something they should have to tackle based on Lucy's youth. I, also think it's what brought them finally to the same page.

This is a good sequel to the first book, though I enjoyed Fair Game a lot more. I enjoyed Gabe's story even if I wasn't Lucy's biggest fan. It's great New Adult with a healthy portion of hot and sexy.

If you read the first, you'll want this one too. If you enjoy the extra hot New Adult, you want this one.

HASH(0xa4837750) out of 5 stars a great, sexy and fun read Aug. 31 2015

In the Dark is the second book in a new, new adult contemporary romance series from Monica Murphy. It’s called the Rules Series and these books just keep getting better and better. The Rules Series is follows Shep, his friend Gabe and his cousin Tristan. I enjoyed Shep’s story, Fair Game, but I knew right away that I wouldn’t be able to wait for Gabe’s story. Gabe was a breath of fresh air in In the Dark.

The story is told in alternating points of view between Lucy and Gabe. Lucy is house sitting for the summer in a super fancy home, and Gabe and his family are renting the house next door. Gabe was totally taken with Lucy the moment that he saw her, and I loved that about him. I loved that he was not afraid to be completely smitten by her. And I could see why he was. Lucy is great. Sweet, but with some spunk in her. Gabe and Lucy come from two different worlds, and fittingly the book is kind of split into two different parts- their summer and the school year.

I think you will be able to tell where the bumps, drama and road blocks pop up. Not in their blissful summer where they were in their own little Lucy and Gabe bubble. College brought them back to the realities of their situations, and things started to get a little bumpy. Why? Oh yea, because Lucy let Gabe think she was a rich girl. Not the biggest insurmountable problem in the world, but it was just enough for Monica Murphy to works her magic blend of lighthearted agnst that I love with my romances. It wasn’t too much, and it didn’t take away from the really sweet and wonderful romance that was going on. Just enough to keep it interesting.

In the Dark is a great follow up to Fair Game. I really am digging the Rules Series. They are great beach reads. I have to admit that I am still a little hesitant about Tristan’s story. He still seems like the biggest jerk. Monica Murphy is going to have to work her magic on him. I know this series is going to be a big hit with tons of readers of new adult contemporary. This was a great, sexy and fun read.

I fell in love w/ Monica's work from One Week Girlfriend and I've been a fan since. Not going to go into any synopsis over storyline, but I just wanted to say that Monica knows how to deliver a book so well written. What I love is when an author can grab your attention and keep you there. This is the perfect amount of everything. The sex is over the top sensual, but not page after page. There's a story to be told and it a very good story. Sit back in your comfy reading spot and enjoy an escape from everyday reality. Looking forward to Tristan's story. I know it's going to be good. FYI - I'm bad, but I read out of order. I couldn't put book 2 down to start w/ book 1 but it didn't ruin anything. Half way through w/ Fair Game and needless to say I'm not accomplishing anything around me house. That book too will get a 5 star once I'm done.
