About the Author

With more than a million books in print, David D. Busch is the world's #1 selling digital camera guide author, and the originator of popular digital photography series like David Busch's Pro Secrets and David Busch's Quick Snap Guides. He has written more than a dozen hugely successful guidebooks for Canon and Canon digital SLR models, as well as many popular books devoted to dSLRs, including Mastering Digital SLR Photography, Second Edition, and Digital SLR Pro Secrets. As a roving photojournalist for more than twenty years, he illustrated his books, magazine articles, and newspaper reports with award-winning images. He's operated his own commercial studio, suffocated in formal dress while shooting weddings-for-hire, and shot sports for a daily newspaper and upstate New York college. His photos and articles have appeared in Popular Photography & Imaging, The Rangefinder, The Professional Photographer, and hundreds of other publications. He has also reviewed dozens of digital cameras for CNet and Computer Shopper, and his advice has been featured in National Public Radio's "All Tech Considered." When named its top five books on Beginning Digital Photography, debuting at the #1 and #2 slots were Busch's Digital Photography All-In-One Desk Reference for Dummies and Mastering Digital Photography. During the past year, he's had as many as five of his books listed in the Top 20 of's Digital Photography Bestseller list--simultaneously! Busch's 120-plus other books published since 1983 include bestsellers like David Busch's Quick Snap Guide to Digital SLR Lenses. Visit his website at http: //

As a first time DSLR camera owner, this book was extremely helpful. It walks you through the different aspects of the camera and provide good tips for users like myself. Haven't even looked at the owners manual as this gives me everything I need.

HASH(0x9fa93cd8) out of 5 stars DON'T BUY THIS BOOK IF . . . Jan. 29 2011

Don't buy this book if you are satisfied with the Instruction Manual and Pocket Guide that came with your camera. Also, don't buy this book if what you really need is a book for beginning photographers. This field guide is not about learning photography.

What this book is, is a User's Guide that should have been included in the same box as the Camera. This is not to say that either of Canon's guides are worthless. I just believe that if people get this field guide they won't have much use for what Canon has provided.

Other reviewers have already covered the features of this great field guide. I can't think of anything to add. Just buy it. You will be glad you did.

HASH(0x9fa93f24) out of 5 stars Canon T2i Feb. 18 2011

This book is a concise and comprehensive guide for the camera bag. It is the perfect companion to the best camera I have ever owned. It is well organized for quick reference. It gives needed info without going into the detail of "why" which is not required when "in the field". I would recommend this field guide for beginners and professionals.

HASH(0x9fa93ee8) out of 5 stars a little disappointed Oct. 17 2011

I actually have the larger T2I book by Busch and that is like a personal advisor to me, but of course it is too large to be carrying around. When I saw the small handboob advertised I fully expected a sort of "cook book" type manual where instructions were written out for various situations I might encounter. So obviously this was not what I had in mind and does not really meet my expectations. I guess it is best to stick with the larger Busch Manual to learn the camera and try to write your own guide or instructions to carry around.

HASH(0x9fa971f8) out of 5 stars Canon T2i Field Guide. Great purchase! Feb. 11 2011

This is the ticket. The little booklet that comes with the camera is okay, but the field guide is great. Has photos that relate to the functions of the camera. I highly recommend the field guide for what ever DSLR you may have.

HASH(0x9fa97258) out of 5 stars Terrific Help June 5 2012

I bought this field guide to carry in my camera bag. Lets face the facts modern cameras are essentially a small computer in your hands and as such they are very complex and have a lot of buttons and modes etc. Very few people are going to remember all the settings and how to get to them. the book excels at this with good photos of the settings and to a lessor degree why to use them. This book does what it was intended to do jog your memory on how to set up the camera for different conditions Aperture, shutter, iso, picture styles etc.Having said all this, when I bought this book I also bought David Busch's
Canon EOS Rebel T2i /550D guide to Digital SLR Photography book. This is a much more comprehensive book on the way this camera works in the various modes and settings. As a set these two books are unbeatable and will give you the confidence to try the different settings available to you to use. If you are a beginner they will get you taking pictures with confidence, and if you are experienced they have the information you are looking for. I can not say enough good things about these books but I feel strongly that they are at their best as a set.
