Death Star Owner's Technical Manual: Star Wars: Imperial DS-1 Orbital Battle Station Hardcover – Nov. 5 2013

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 271 ratings

Conceived as the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the Death Star battle station is equipped with a planet-shattering superlaser. The station is heavily shielded, defended by TIE starfighters and laser cannons, and invested with firepower greater than that of half the Imperial fleet. The Empire’s diabolical leaders have every reason to believe that their technological terror will induce fear across the galaxy. But the Death Star has one flaw.

This Haynes Manual traces the origins of the Death Star, from concept to a top-secret project that begins before the foundation of the Empire, which draws design inspiration from the Trade Federation’s spherical warships. In this manual, the Death Star’s onboard systems and controls are explained in detail, and are illustrated with an astonishing range of computer-generated artwork, floor plans, cutaways, and exploded diagrams, all newly created by artists Chris Reiff and Chris Trevas—the same creative team behind the
Millennium Falcon Owner’s Workshop Manual. Text is by their Falcon colleague Ryder Windham, author of more than fifty Star Wars books.

Covering history, development and prototyping, superstructure, energy and propulsion, weapons and defensive systems, hangar bays, security, service and technical sectors, crew facilities, and with information about the Death Star II and its planetary shield generator, this is the most thorough technical guide to the Death Star available.

This Haynes Manual is fully authorized and approved by Lucasfilm.

Bought this as a gift and he loved it, as most Star Wars nerds would. I thought it was pretty neat too, as the inner workings are pretty elaborately laid out.

Is this cool or what? Tired of taking your Death Star into the shop for every single minor repair? No longer necessary now that you have this practical repair manual.
Star Wars fans will love it. In-depth information that goes well beyond the movies for the entire story behind the development and completion of the Death Star. Great technical drawings, and plenty of stills from the Star Wars films.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book that will make "Star Wars" fans feel like Rebel spies

"Entertainment Weekly" film critic Anthony Breznican wrote one year ago that the difference between the "Star Trek" and "Star Wars" franchises is that "Trek" appeals to the head, while "Wars" appeals to the heart.

"Star Wars: Death Star Technical Manual" definitely appeals to the head. Copiously illustrated with cutaway drawings, floor plans, diagrams and stills from the various "Star Wars" films, writer Ryder Windham explains in detail-without ever lapsing into technobabble and becoming boring-the Empire's ultimate weapon, including its onboard systems and controls.

It also traces the Death Star's history from concept to a top-secret project that began in the time of the "SW" prequel trilogy, before the Old Republic's fall and the Empire's rise. (The Trade Federation's spherical warships, seen in "The Phantom Menace," provided the inspiration for the Empire's technological terror.)

The book also covers briefly, toward its end, the unfinished Death Star II seen in "Return of the Jedi."

With the impending theatrical release of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," "Star Wars: Death Star Technical Manual" is highly recommended as a Christmas gift for "Star Wars" fans. Holding this book in their hands, they may even feel like Rebel spies possessing the Death Star's design schematics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Useful for Death Star Owners

This is perhaps one of my favorite purchases, it includes thorough specs, guides and instructions for nearly every aspect of the Death Star, and it's served me very well in learning everything I can about the legendary, hulking non-moon space station that we all love so very much.

Thanks to this manual I've finally gotten my own Death Star off cinder blocks in the backyard, and I am right on schedule with test firing the Ion laser. Only disappointment was the apparent lack of a labeled "low power" button nor does this manual contain instructions for taping planets back together after mass dispersal.

P.S. How long will it take NASA to figure out Mars has vanished after my test fire date?
