Y'know those shows you really get into, and then they get cancelled before the first season has even aired? Yeah. Sadly, this is one of them.

But... for only one season (13 episodes), this show is quite satisfying. It's just unfortunate the story won't continue. DG was likely too expensive to continue producing without the ratings to justify the production costs, but potential future seasons of a great show have been lost.

Still, this is worthwhile entertainment. Well written, well-acted, great chemistry between characters and an awe-inspiring season arch. You won't regret any investment in this show.

Like the other reviewers, I saw Defying Gravity on DVD after it had been broadcast. Previous to seeing the DVD's on sale, I had never heard of this show which was a shame. This is the type of television that I enjoy viewing: thoughtful, well written, likable but flawed characters, and great potential for story development. It was very unfortunate that by the time it was properly viewed, it was cancelled. I read an interview with James Parriot where he discussed his ideas for season 2 and story thread that would carry to the end of the series. The whole project had alot of potential. If he never has the chance to have movie to rap up the story, at least write a novel so we can find out how the story ends.

I very much enjoyed this series and could not believe it was dumped right in the middle of an excellent set up for more stories. the Aw Come on! is for the people who dumped the series. This is a science fiction tale of astronauts in training and the same astronauts heading to various planets in the solar system. They have a secret. There is a mysterious orb on board and they are actually going to get more. Each character has a weakness and a strength and these traits are fleshed out in the back and forth telling of the training and the actual mission. There are some excellent plots and subplots and love stories as well as disappointments and successes. After watching the series twice I figured out what may have happened next. I sure wish the series had been continued.

The construction of this TV show is so brilliant with reflexions on human behavior at the beginning of each episode and how common people can relate to those reflexions.
Also how each caracter comprehend and react to situations is revealing of how we percieve events differently from one individual to another.
It is an excellent show, well produced and as with almost every good sci-fi show, poorly promoted and advertised!
Keep DG alive!
We want Season 2

I received the DVD in the mail in good time. It is in perfect shape, looks new! My husband was very happy to get it. He has been trying to catch episodes off the net but not always does it work out. Too bad the series is canceled. Will not hesitate to order again from this person.

This was probably the best sci-fi series ever. It was unfortunately jinxed from the start: scheduled for a summer season, the worse, victim of very bad and scarce marketing, plus the network kept bouncing it around in the schedule and skipping weeks for any and every event that happened to fit in that slot - the best way to kill a series.
I guess the big bosses liked it, had no real argument to say no, but it cost too much. The acting was good, the plot was superb and original (too bad we never got to know the ending), and the special effects astounding.

Truly, this is one I will regret for a very long time. Especially that it marked the last of the great space series, right after the end of the StarGate franchise which had followed right after the end of the Star Trek series. Except for Fringe now also ended, there is no real SCIENCE-fiction. Just monsters, many places and people being blown up, lots of vampires and crime, lots of crime. I guess having people think beyond our simple daily lives isn't profitable enough, reality is. I wonder if the kids in 2-3 generations from now will still be able to imagine new worlds instead of rehashing the old. And they say old folks are the ones who keep repeating themselves...
