I am a son,
A friend,
A brother,
A psychopath.

After eighteen years of being in a psych ward, I've been released into the world. Things have changed. Blake is married to Melody and now a father to my new fixation, Cereus; my beautiful niece who knows nothing of my existence.

When consequences of my past sins begin playing tricks on me, old cravings demand to be satisfied. There is no cure for my kind of sickness.

I am void of everything but obsession.
I can’t love,
I can’t feel,
I am Desolate.

Finally we get Ryans story!!! Eighteen years after the events that happened in Empathy, we meet back up with Ryan and his family. Been sent to stay in a Psych hospital for nearly two decades, you would think it would change a man. That’s not the case with Ryan. Told starting from 8 months previous, it begins with Ryan still locked up and Blake living a ‘normal’ life with Melody. He’s working as a police captain, happily married and still loved up, got a teenage daughter Cereus and his life is good…until he returns a phone call and finds out that his brothers been released. So, of course, he keeps quiet and doesn’t tell Melody and decides he’ll keep an eye on Ryan.
Now I’m going to say here if you’re expecting Ryan to find redemption, a soul, some morals or feelings, whatever, you’re in for a disappointed.
After convincing his doctor that he’s cured, he gets released into the community. He’s already got his eye on Cereus and he’s determined to get closer to her.
(Just a little side note: this is not a sexual interest, it’s his niece, it is not creepy or incesty at all).
I really don’t want to go into the story, it’ll spoil it, I will say this book continued to surprise me. It had the things I’ve come to expect from Ker, hot sex, a brilliant story and likable characters along with a (pretty big) sprinkle of darkness, what I didn’t expect was Ryan. I am so happy Ker Dukey kept with Ryan’s character from the start of the first book all the way through this one. He is one sick little puppy. He’s got to be one of my all time favourite characters. He is so complex, he’s like an onion, layers on layers of craziness and insanity, and the worse thing was I could actually empathise with/understand him. He reads peoples weaknesses and pounces, getting what he wants from them.

Another Heart Pounder by Ker Dukey!!!

This is the 2nd book in the Empathy series.

I did read Empathy, and I really suggest you read Empathy first to get the full effect of this dysfunctional, effed-up story :) Empathy was twisted and perfect and I devoured every page!!! But that doesn't mean I wasn't scared s***less to read Desolate. It took me a while to get the courage to start this one. If you read Empathy, you KNOW it was quite the mind f**k!!!!!

True to Ker Dukey's brilliant imagination, she takes us on another crazy ride!!!

It is a dark dirty trip but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Ryan sort of gets under your skin, and I mean that in a good way!!!! Not to take anything away from his bada**ery, because he is still really messed up.

I highly recommend Reading Empathy! Reading Desolate! We all need a little heart-pounding in our lives!

I hope we get more about this dysfunctional family!!!!!! <3

I was lucky enough to have been given an Arc of Desolate by Ker for an honest review. 5 Stars are not enough this book deserves more.

Desolate is outstanding the second book in this fantastic series and what a brilliant follow on book.

Desolate starts off 18 Years on from where Empathy finished, Chapter one is hot with the lovely Blake & Melody and we are introduced to Cereus and the picture of how their life is now.

Ryan ~ The amazing, dark twisted man is released and his first mission is to meet and find Cereus his adorable niece. Of course along the way we see Ryan's dark side at it's best no holding back on the details from Ker which I really love about this author. Although Ryan will always have a blood thirsty need for danger, cause harm and a need for twisted sexual acts, we do see another side to Ryan, albeit very small, the saying blood is thicker than water rings true.

Desolate was outstanding and for me, is the best I have read from Ker to date.

Look forward to more from Ker Dukey

So those of you that truly know my book whore heart…Empathy was my favorite read of 2014, and needless to say, I’ve been dying to get my greedy little hands on Ryan’s story in Desolate. Ker Dukey never disappoints, and she’s at her crazy mind blowing ways with this one!

We pick up 18 years later, on the eve of Ryan getting his so called freedom from the psych ward, where he’s spent his time “getting well”. God this man makes my head spin, and has turned my mind to mush! You want to feel for him, but at the same time, want him to pay for all the literal blood he has on his hands.

Blake, Ryan’s brother, is living the life he always wanted with his forever love Melody, and their teenage daughter Cereus. That is until his world comes crashing down around him with one phone call. Secrets start to take shape, and misunderstandings occur, causing Melody to think the worst of her beloved husband.

Once Ryan is free, he sets his sights on his niece, who unbelievably enough, has a lot in common with her uncle. This is where my line of hatred and compassion come into play with Ryan. You see a different side to him when he’s with Cereus, it’s as if she’s a calming force in his crazy messed up mind. He’s scary brilliant in his thoughts, and definitely one of the greatest characters I’ve ever had the sick pleasure of getting to know!

So many gut wrenching twists and turns in this story, you will be reeling for days, but loving it! Ker’s storytelling just keeps getting better and better, and I can’t wait to see what her demented but genius mind comes up with next!
