HASH(0xa296d738) out of 5 stars You should definately buy this right now! Oct. 28 2005

Devil hunter Yohko is classic Anime at it's best! This show may be a bit dated, but it still has sexy girls, engaging plots, and great music. This DVD is absolutely exceptional in every way and I strongly recomend it for any anime fan(provided you can deal with the nudity of course).

HASH(0xa2beae88) out of 5 stars An Old Gothic Magical Girl Classic March 5 2013
By GintaxAlvissforever - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD
This literally is what Devil Hunter Yohko is. I idolized Yoko a lot when I was a little girl but the thing that prevented me from enjoying the series as a little girl was the gore. This anime was very dark for its time and while it had a generic plot, it kept you on your toes.

The anime is actually a 5 OVA episode. One episode is just a music video of the entire franchise so you don't count it. The other episodes seem to just be about Yohko's everyday life slaying demons as most of the episodes are stand alone.

Anyways, the summary of the series is about Yohko Mano learning that her family has been slaying demons for generations. The only way for them to become devil hunters is to maintain their virginity. Yohko's mother Madoka decided to break the rule and get pregnant with Yoko automatically passing the duty to Yohko as a result. Sayoko, Yohko's grandmother who is too old to be fighting demons makes it obvious that she won't let Yohko go boy crazy (that's her defining trait is to get laid.) Yohko doesn't want to do the job but at the same time, she doesn't want her friends to get hurt...

Which is where the problem starts. When OVA one starts, the series introduces Yohko's childhood friend Osamu. The series sets him up as the guy that Yohko would eventually end up with even if she goes for guy of the week. The problem is he disappears right after this OVA and never mentioned again.

The first OVA is actually darker than the later episodes with comedy and with each new episode adds something a little different. Azusa in OVA 2 becomes Yohko's partner. OVA 3 is all over the place in all honestly with being transported to a magic world. OVA 5 is considered the best of the bunch and the most action and OVA 6 just seems to be tagged there with the great music.

Overall a great classic series.

HASH(0xa2ddb834) out of 5 stars God animation, could have used more extra Aug. 15 2012

Its a good quality conversion from film to DVD. The stories are not high drama but fun. The last episode seemed to be setup for a TV series since the animation takes on more early 90's digital effect. The last episode animation reminds me of the Bubblegum Crisis TV series.

Take it for what it is: an 80's sex comedy similar to a Ranma 1/2 with a more serious tone.

HASH(0xa286f96c) out of 5 stars Devil Hunting! July 4 2008

This was an alright anime. I wouldn't say it's the best one I've seen by any means and I haven't seen that many yet, but I'm working on it. I picked this up because I tend to like a lot of things involving the demonic. I mean, I do collect occult books after all. "Devil Hunter Yohko" seems to start off pretty disjointed to me, but as the series continues the writing gets a lot stronger and a bit more serious. So that progression made it kind of worthwhile by the end.

The story concept is pretty basic. Yohko is a young teenage girl and she comes from a long line of devil hunter's, in fact she is the 108th devil hunter in her family. Since she is sixteen at the time the show is very sexually charged and there's a good amount of female nudity. However, the first episode is definitely the most random of all of them. It's like they weren't really sure what direction to take the series and there's a lot of slapstick kind of humor, the comic relief being provided by her grand mother mostly. It also had a very heavy gothic feel, but that kind of left the series a bit after the first episode. Anyway, she finally comes into her own and becomes a devil hunter, but boys are still heavily on her mind. One of the funniest parts is that whenever she transforms into the devil hunter there's an extended nude scene as her clothes tear off and her costume comes on. It's so weird; it made me think of the old cartoons that always have that flash scene when the heroes call upon their special abilities or whatever just before they fight the enemy.

I wouldn't expect anything too riveting out of this show, it's merely average in my opinion and the whole overall concept isn't hugely original. Hot girl fighting demons? It falls into that whole category of hot girl versus `x', where `x' is any random enemy you can make up. Some of the demons were really cool looking though, especially the one in the fifth episode that had fought all the other devil hunters. That demon had a pretty interesting concept. In some ways I wish there was at least a little more depth, but they don't go too much into the background of the world. Don't get me wrong, they explain every demon they face, but I don't know, some of the explanations just seem thrown together. The ones in episode's five and six were the best though. It's interesting because as the series goes on there was a little less nudity in each episode, then they tried to make up for it all in the sixth.

Honestly I can't say whether this is really worth owning overall. I didn't hate it, but I just don't see myself watching this a bunch of times in the future. If you're really itching to watch some girl kicking the crap out of demons with a bit of comedy thrown in by her family life, then this is definitely something that would appeal to you. Other than that I can't think of much else to tell about this, it didn't totally blow me away.
