The Star Trek U.S.S. Excelsior NCC-2000 was famously the first command of Enterprise helmsman Hikaru Sulu, and as such holds a place in a many a Trekker's heart. This electronic starship is finally leaving drydock. The U.S.S. Excelsior, registry number NCC-2000, commanded by Captain Hikaru Sulu, came to the rescue at the end of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, when it helped the Enterprise defeat General Chang and his experimental Bird of Prey. The U.S.S. Excelsior NCC-2000 ship measures 16-inches long and features film-accurate lights and sound effects, as well as the voice of George "Sulu" Takei himself. Includes adjustable display stand.

I have never been a huge fan of the excelsior, but the price was right and I did want it for my collection.
The scale is off again. It's too small compared to the other ships in the series. Even TOS Enterprise is bigger.
However, it is very well done. The audio snippets are great, and the lighting looks awesome. Again, it has a mode for just the lighting (hold the button in).
It has the same type of stand as the others but it seems they have done something to tighten up the stand a little since it seems to hold the ship well. I also picked up TOS Romulan Bird of Prey which arrived yesterday, and the stand on it is also working well.
The Excelsior is using 3 x AAA batteries. Thank goodness. Those little coin batteries in some don't last long.
This toy is fairly heavy, sturdy and well made. I'm happy with it. Unfortunately, I have four or five more to add to the collection, and I can't decide which one to get next....decisions decisions.....

- Best pre-built Excelsior released by any manufacturer to date.
- Audio digitization is very good compared to the old Playmates toys.
- Plastic feels stronger than the model kit version I built over 10 years ago.
- Nacelles are missing horizontal fins.
- Minor flash that can be filed off.
Lets face it, this is a pretty rare ship. Itʻs taken a long time for them to finally release it. The Playmates version was essentially the Enterprise B that was relabeled as the Excelsior. And the Playmates nacelles sag! The nacelles on this replica don't!
Lights and sound are excellent.
Noticed a few flaws... the moldings on the necelles are inaccurate, there are two horizontal fins missing.
Also noted that the glue oozed out on the main hull and smeared the paint on several of the windows.
my only regrets is that it is not to scale of the enterprise a. I can understand it not being to scale for the E but it's disappointing to not be able to hold them in both hands side-by-side or to put them on their stands side-by-side and reflect on the size difference. if they came out with a smaller version of the enterprise a and scale to this Excelsior I'd pick that up in a heartbeat.
I didn't seem to notice the missing nacelle fins until I read about them here but I did notice that on the saucer one of the yellow thrusters was not painted in and I wonder how common that is.
But otherwise it's a great model
