I was lucky enough to get an advance copy to read and I'm so glad. I've been following Yoni's blog and site for a while now and he seemed sensible. I hoped that the book would not disappoint and it absolutely didn't!

This is not your standard diet book. You know the one-exclude some food group, the weight falls off, it'a a miracle! I've gone through quite a number of them and the miracle was always short lived. I've yo-yoed up and down for the last 20 years and have an extensive wardrobe of different sized clothes to prove it. For the first time in a long time, I actually have some hope of making lasting changes.

There are 3 main sections: The Reveal, The 10 Day Reset and The Recovery. The book starts out by describing diets gone wrong and introduces Post-Traumatic Dieting Disorder. I recognised myself in many of the descriptions. Too many! I'm pretty sure I'm a classic case of PTDD. Luckily, there is hope for me. It leads into a 10 day/10 step programme to fix the damage and start losing sensibly. It's all wonderfully doable and makes sense. Pitfalls are covered and there's also a great recipe section at the back. Even I could manage them! The final section teaches you how to keep these behaviours going for life.

It's wonderfully down to earth and doable. There are no false promises, no starvation, no special foods. It's based on scientific evidence, a wealth of experience and real life. I have recommended this book to everybody-particularly all my friends who have had similar experiences with losing and regaining or just struggling in general.

If I had to pick one word to describe the tone of the book it would be "kind". No matter how many times you've tried and failed, there's hope for you. You're not alone and you're not a failure. I could feel myself relaxing and exhaling as I read. With this approach, I'm confident you (and I) can actually succeed. For life!

Finally, someone who knows all the wrong things that I am thinking about food! Just reading this book has taken a weight (no pun intended) off of my shoulders. There are reasons behind every dieter's struggle -- Dr. Freedhoff's book is helping me forget why I am always failing to lose weight and feeling guilty about it; his research is showing me how I can take a more positive approach to living. Dr. Freedhoff's information in the book is easy to understand and easy to put into practice. This is a book that everyone should read, especially those, like me, who suffer from "Post Traumatic Dieter's Disorder". Thanks, Dr. Freedhoff, for sharing your knowledge!

I personally met Dr. Freedhoff a few years ago, and the wisdom he shared with me while I was his patient is all in this book for everyone to read. Dr. Freedhoff's unique approach at detailing what is a sensible and ultimately effective approach at weight management, makes the book a pleasant read. A must read, if like me, you want to get off the dieting roller coaster!

I've not done any specific kind of diet before, but just cutting back wasn't working. I saw a review of this book in the University of Toronto Alumni magazine (Dr. Freedhoff is also an alumnus) and though I'd give it a try as it sounded sensible. I wanted something straight forward with no gimmicks, as well as something that was sustainable. I haven't been absolutely following it, but it has caused me to look at the caloric content of what I eat, as well as the protein content, and I've made adjustments accordingly. I've not been hungry, and I've been losing an average of a pound a month for the past 8 months. It's become the "new normal" and it's not really hard. I'm glad I found it and read it.

The number of "expert"- endorsed fad diets has become overwhelming, so much so that most struggling with their weight can no longer separate the pseudoscience from the facts. No wonder the vast majority of those who lose weight eventually put it all back on. No wonder those same people feel guilty, ashamed and desperate. Refreshingly, Dr. Yoni Freedhoff, a family physician with his own obesity practice, takes a different approach to eating. His popular blog, "Weighty Matters," criticizes obesity myths and writes with a knowledge of the medical literature combined with extensive experience. His new book, "The Diet Fix," advocates for the healthiest life you can enjoy: no starvation, no cleanses, no traumatic sacrifices and no miracle supplements.

Freedhoff opens his book with “Dieting’s Seven Deadly Sins”: Hunger (not sustainable), sacrifice (leads to certain failure), willpower (important but permanent resistance is futile), food restrictions (manage, not banish food groups), sweating (you can't outrun your fork), seeking perfection (need to accommodate setbacks) and denial (suffering becomes harder to both sustain and deny). Given that typical "diets" don't deliver long-term results, negative emotions and expectations run high among dieters.
