“I will always be with you…”

Rising Democratic star Caroline Gerard hasn’t had an easy year. After losing her husband, she is raising two small children alone while trying to navigate the tricky and sometimes shallow halls on Capitol Hill. A string of nasty speeches has her scrambling to apologize to any number of candidates, including newly elected Republican Jack McIntyre. Falling in love again is the last thing on her mind.

Jack McIntyre might have a reputation as a playboy, but he has his sights set solely on his new colleague. Can he break through Caroline’s grief and capture her heart?

Told mostly in flashback and set against a chilling fascist backdrop, Dissident is a rollercoaster ride of political intrigue, passionate contemporary romance, and undying love.

For readers 18+. Ends on a cliffhanger.

**4.5 stars!!**

Cecilia London knows how to write! I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy Dissident at first, I’m normally one to run in the other direction when it comes to books with political tie ins. However, I knew I was in for a treat from the minute I started reading the prologue. I was hooked and desperately wanted to know more about Caroline and Jack, what was happening to them, why were they running, and what the future had in store for them.

When I found out Jack’s character was a millionaire playboy, I thought, here come the cliches! But that was definitely not the case. The passion between them in dangerous, but what I loved the most was how affectionate Jack was without it feeling forced or exaggerated. The romance and how their relationship is portrayed to readers is nothing like all the other fluff I’ve read. Due to Jack and Caroline’s age I feel like there connection was realistic and mature. Caroline is the kind of character that I can’t picture anyone hating. I found her to be very realistic and witty. The banter between them was refreshing!

Dissident is told in both the past and present. In the past we get to know the characters and a deep understanding of them and how they met. I really enjoyed the past because not only did we really get to know the characters but I loved how we get to see their relationship grow. The present plot really focuses on Caroline’s state in the hospital. As much as I did enjoy the present plot, I wanted more.

Overall, Dissident was a fantastic debut book, I can’t wait to get my hands on Conscience!! August feels so far away! I need to know what’s going to happen next in both the present and past! If you’re looking for a book with character development, scenes that will make your toes curl, and a plot that will keep you hooked from beginning to end then I suggest getting your hands on Dissident.

This is not a complete book. If you are prepared to not know the end of the story, or even understand the beginning (since this instalment does not tell you want happened to get the characters into the situation they are in, this book is for you.

Dissident caught me off guard. Nothing like what I was expecting from a political thriller. Majorly hot sex scenes weaved in with witty banter. Caroline's food, movie and baseball references are so clever and funny.

Caroline is in a government hospital in a coma and the book is told back and forth between the present and her memories.

Caroline suffered a great loss when her husband was killed in an accident.
She struggled to do her job in Congress and be a mother to her two children.

She spouts off about Congressman John McIntyre at a political rally and wants to apologize. She ask her best friend to invite him to an event at her home so that she can. Sparks fly from there.

Caroline is cautious emotionally after the loss of her husband but can't deny the attraction between herself and Jack (John McIntyre).

Politically things are heating. Caroline is not one to keep her opinion to herself and I love her.

I am hooked! Based on the first book this is going to be a great series and is so well written I couldn't put it down. I loved Cecilia London's writing style. I felt a part of the story and was on pins and needles waiting to see what happened next. Jack is amazing and my new BBF.

Thanks for a great experience Cecilia!

I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I'll admit that at first I wasn't so sure. While a huge fan of House of Cards, wasn't sure if mixing politics and upheaval with romance would do it for me. Also, I was a bit put off by this being one of a six part series (I love to hate serials...sort of...LOL). But oh boy, I was so wrong!
This is Ms. London's debut novel but it should not be her last. This lady can write with the scenes, character development and dialogue just seamlessly flowing from page to page.
The story alternates between past and present and it works really well in letting the reader get to know and invest in both Caroline Gerard and John Montgomery McIntyre (Jack), as well as slowly start to understand the trouble Caroline is in.
The main focus is on the relationship and love story that unfolds between Caroline and Jack. She is recently widowed with two girls and he is a self-professed millionaire playboy. This is where any cliches end. Their relationship is mature, relatable and so refreshing. I just loved the pace, care and attention Ms. London gave to the connection and love between Caroline and Jack. Caroline was just so likeable, witty and smart. And Jack is one sexy beast...he is hard to resist. Talk about knowing how to take care of a woman...
The chemistry between these two was hot and heavy and Jack's adoration is undeniable but also not over the top. Along with this wonderful and compelling love story, there is suspense and danger unfolding as we experience snippets of a new and dangerous America in which the President is beyond corrupt and Caroline and Jack are caught smack dab in the middle of it.
