I read Heart Shaped Box first, followed by The Divorce of Buddy Figaro and found both books are very different from one another but have a few things in common, including the fact that they're both by very talented authors who feel free to experiment and step outside the box - even if it's a heart shaped box.
Hill brings a new dimension to horror while Silverberg combines comedy with Taoist teachings and a science fiction-fantasy plot. If you're looking for something different, something fresh and new, then I would highly recommend both Heart Shaped Box and The Divorce of Buddy Figaro.
Another work of original writing I'd recommend is Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill, a very different book but also quite entertaining. I highly recommend both of these astonishingly good novels.
