Product Description

"Swoon. Sigh. Beautiful, gorgeous love story. You renew my faith in true love, Katy Regnery. And a brilliant take off on the little mermaid. People are going to love this one." --Mia Sheridan, New York Times bestselling author of Archer's Voice

From New York Times bestselling author Katy Regnery comes a new twist on a beloved fairytale.

In this modern retelling of The Little Mermaid, a fisherman's daughter from an Outer Banks island untouched by time, meets the son of the North Carolina governor at a fancy party where she is working.

Laire, who wants more from life than her little island can offer, is swept away by wealthy, sophisticated Erik, who is, in turn, entranced by her naiveté and charm. The two spend a whirlwind summer together that ends on the knife-point of heartbreak and forces them to go their separate ways.

Years later, when fate finds them together once again, they will discover the terrifying depth of the secrets they kept from each other, and learn that shattered hearts can only be healed by a love that willfully refuses to die.

All novels Katy Regnery’s ~a modern fairytale~ collection are written as fundraisers. 10% of the e-book sales for in March and April 2017 will be donated.

To say that this story was amazing would be right, but also an understatement. It was fan-nominal. Breath taking. Inspiring to say the least.
Every story Katy writes seeps into my soul and carries me through every journey her characters take, like I'm there, living it myself. Right from page one, I'm one with the story.

This story she tells is of love and loss, devastation, deception, conception, lies and loneliness, and finding each other again.

One beautiful summer, a young girl ,a fisherman's daughter, a young boy a governors son, fall in love. There's no way they can share it with anyone else, no one can find out about them because no one would approve or understand. Summer comes to an end and their last night together ends in devastation, lives are torn apart, shattered hearts. Lies, and Broken Promises keep them apart.

Years pass but their love for one another never fades. It will never fade.

I am speechless! I have loved Katy Regnery's Fairytale's, but this one, Don't Speak, is the best one ever!!
It was spellbinding, from first to last word. One of those, unputdownable books that stands out above all others. I could, and would love to see this book made into a movie.
I was so interested in the accents of these folk who live on these isolated North Carolina Islands, that I found an example on YT. It made the the story all the more real. I highly recommend Don't Speak. It is a beautiful, beautiful, story. Thank you Katy Regnery.

I'm a HUGE fan of Katy's stories, especially her Modern Fairytale series and this time she has really outdone herself. There wasn't I thing that I didn't adore about this book!!!

Laire and Erik, god I think they're my favourite couple of Katy's. Their love for one another despite their differences just did me in. I was a goner from the first moment they laid eyes on each other. How could I not? He wanted her and he pursued her, and she could do little to fight the pull she felt toward him.

And sweet and also sexy Erik has definitely pushed past ALL of Katy's other heroes and now has a permanent place in my heart. He did everything right!!! He was sweet, flirty, and he was never once embarrassed of Laire. Did he lie and keep her a secret? Yes! But not because he wasn't bursting at the seams to tell everyone. He had to protect her, and that was the only way he knew how to do it.

I'm going to stop here because I don't want to ruin anything for someone who hasn't read it yet. And if you haven't, I've got to tell you that's a shame because you're really missing out. This has definitely hit my top reads of 2017!!!

And the little homages to The Little Mermaid did not go unnoticed. They were subtle but if you've ever watched the movie you'll catch them. ❤

The Little Mermaid is one of my top three favorite Fairytales! Katy Regnery has successfully written a touching and charming modern day re-telling of this classic tale.

The two main characters, Laire and Erik, were very sweet and lovable. I must admit though, I was not a fan of the name Laire, so I said Ariel in my head instead! They came from two completely different worlds, but to them, that didn’t matter.

Erik was a governor’s son, and came from a world of wealth and privilege. When Erik had to explain things in “his world” to Laire, he was always respectful, patient and kind. He was the perfect 'prince'- swoon worthy.

Laire, a sweet and innocent fisherman’s daughter, came from a small island where her life was pretty much laid out for her. But like in The Little Mermaid, she wants more. *I totally picture Ariel singing Part of Your World here**

The connection between the two main characters could be seen from the start, and the love that lasted even through their time apart was beautiful. There were many times along the way that I wanted to knock their meddling family members on their heads though!

If you like modern day re-telling’s, Don’t Speak is one that you should add to your list. Grab yourself a copy and for a few hours, be a part of Katy Regnery’s world ;)

Starting this review was not an easy feat as I was simply left with my head in my hands! Few books have made me feel this way… but then again, this author's writing is a force to be reckoned with. She pushes, pulls and arouses so many contrasting feelings in the reader, coming out unscathed is nigh on impossible! Narrated in past tense in third person, she cannily gave me a sense of false security. I truly felt she’d snuggled me up in a quilt of warmth at the beginning of the story, and then… And then I was only to be showered with what seemed to be love’s cold deception. This is an extremely challenging read. The gradual build-up in the two protagonists’ story is told in such a way I hung on to every word and never wanted this fairytale based on The Little Mermaid to end.

When Erik Rexford and Laire Cornish’s relationship began to flower, the first thing that came to mind was how on earth were these two youngsters with such different backgrounds going to be able to have a future together. Between them, their tower of strength to ride a storm on disproportionate levels never appeared to waver. I yearned for them to conquer it. I wholly trusted a happy ever after. Ah, but that very ride they’d both willing chosen to take took me on a trip overflowing with conflicts at every intricately woven thread! Unravelling their conundrum seemed to be an impossibility, kept me on tenterhooks and at times, my own sufferance was unbearably difficult to deal with. Re: my hubby who heard me sobbing at ridiculous o’clock reminded me that day was breaking and woke me up to reality. Why then, was I in such an emotional mess? Why then, couldn’t I put this book down? I ached for Erik and Laire’s caresses, their stolen kisses and glimpses of adoration.
