The authors of this book do an amazing job portraying Draconians as more than just the killers they were portrayed like in the first Dragonlance books. It is nice to read a book from their point of view, seeing exactly what they feel and think about the other races on Krynn.
This books has an amazing storyline, and is full of enuogh action and adventure to keep any fantasy reader hooked. There is tons of humor in this book. All of the characters have their own personality which is nice to see. The main characters in this book, including Kang (the lead Draconian), and his right hand man..err..Draconian, Slith, are all nicely developed and portrayed well.
The story and characters keep this book a fun read all the way though. It is one of the better books in the Dragonlance world. Not only are the characters fun to read about, but it is also fun to read from the other side for once. Seeing the story through the eyes of Draconians and not through the eyes of the "Good Guys".
But let's start at the beginning. It was good, that's about all I can ever say about a non-mainstream DL book lately too. Good characters (I loved the dwarves, they were great), fight scenes were skillfully done. The author(s) did a good job filling you in on the Draconians past since the War of the Lance. And it had a well thought out plot.
But at the end this all falls apart. After the Treasure race beginnings, the book gets pretty darn boring; it turns into a race plain and simple. The Draconians are ahead, but then the dwarves do something clever, but then the Dracos are back, no the dwarves...it just started to annoy me and I kept on saying 'just find the stupid treasure all ready!'
Final Thought: You know because it has Margaret Weis on the cover that sooner or later you are going to read it, just don't expect anything as good as the Legends or the Chronicles.
but even so, this is a fine book, which all dragonlance fans should have on their shelves. you might also want to grab a copy of <Watership Down> as well. ^__^
