HASH(0x9cbff210) out of 5 stars Good book but a couple of concerns Feb. 9 2011
By jtcornhusker - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I bought a few of the books in this series for my 6 year old to read on a long trip. While I like that the story teaches some good lessons, including being honest and obeying one's parents, I did not like that there was name calling (sissy, mama's boy, etc.) I thought this would be one series I wouldn't have to be concerned with giving him to read himself. I was wrong. It may not be a big deal to all parents but we try to give our children positive, wholesome things to read when they are reading on their own and save books that have topics we need to address or discuss with them for reading out loud as a family. I wish the author would have left that out. It didn't enhance the story at all and could have made the same points without it. Other than that, the story was cute and kept my son's interest. The chapters are very short - much too short for a read aloud but good for a child who is ready to start chapter books on their own. While the story doesn't mention God, that I remember, it does teach values.

HASH(0x9cbff4e0) out of 5 stars From a great series! July 30 2011

Janette Oke's books are wonderful because they are nice stories and they teach children at the same time. The animal characters seem to come to life in this series. I read this one out loud to my children many years ago. So, it was fun to find it for my grandchildren too!

HASH(0x9cbff6b4) out of 5 stars Not as listed March 25 2013

The book was listed as "good" but the pages were yellowed and water-stained, and the cover had multiple tears around the edge.
