DR. PIERRE DUKAN is a French medical doctor with thirty-five years of experience in clinical nutrition. While he began his medical career specializing in neurology, Dr. Dukan discovered and refined his successful weight-loss formula while working with his patients. Since then, he has spent his career helping people lose weight.

The book is very clear on how to achieve your weight loss goals. It doesn't sugar coat the steps that are required, and is also very clear on how to avoid the pitfalls that could derail your progress. I recommend it to anyone who truly wants to shed unwanted pounds and is willing to follow the diet. I was never hungry at any point, and while food choices became a bit boring, I didn't suffer at all.

With Dukan, I know what I can eat and when, and I was NEVER hungry! I got rid of everything else in the cupboard to avoid temptation (and my very supportive skinny husband kept his granola bars, cookies, snacks etc. safely hidden away.) Then, eating as much as I want from the lists given, the pounds dropped off!
The book gives reasons for why the diet works, how the proteins help you lose the weight, and a lot of other guidance in a clear easily-understood way. I didn't really use many of the recipes included, but they're there if you feel adventurous. If you are serious about really wanting to lose weight, then give this a try.
Also, my blood pressure is back to normal, plus my glucose levels!!!

Like any diet, it has its pro's and con's. Sure, you won't like every recipe or food there, but there is enough leadway to make it into something you can enjoy with a little imagination. Really like that it is over 4 stages (approx 2 years) to establish the lifestyle change. Great support group on Facebook for motivation. Best of all is the cost - groceries! Eating healthier is more expensive, especially when following a predominantly protein diet, but you are not paying for supplements or unnecessary fees.
Many people whine and complain that this diet can't be followed. To me it is an eater's dream! You can have tenderloin steak and an egg for breakfast if you want. Baked chicken, all the fish you want etc. etc. But it is not extreme like the Atkins diet and everything has to be very low or no fat. I ate a lot of no fat Greek yogurt and dairy products and there are many veggies to choose from. Once you get used to no carbs, they are not hard to resist. I cooked and baked normal meals for hubby with no desire to eat them. If you are dieting you have to expect to have some restrictions or it wouldn't be a diet! and it is only a week or less that you eat only lean protein, then you get carbs in the veggies.
It's a year now and I maintained my weight right thru to the fall. Since then I got a bit slack and with Christmas too I let a few pounds return. So I am just going to start into it again and drop them before I gain more. I know I can do it since I did it last time. Once you lose the weight you need to follow his maintenance plan or they will come back on over time.
