Only reason I gave this a 4 not a 5 is I think the Essentials product line (Heroes of the Fallen Lands: An Essential Dungeons & Dragons Supplement OR Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdoms: An Essential Dungeons & Dragons Supplement for players | Rules Compendium: An Essential Dungeons & Dragons Compendium for you DM and maybe Monster Manual: A 4th Edition Core Rulebook to help ) might be a better way to start with 4e if you haven't tired it yet. One of my players picked up some of these books and they appear to have updated some of the rules, makes sense as the Essentials books are printed more recently.
While there are plenty of D&D books you can get to add to your game, we played our first five games with just these three books and never felt like we were missing anything.
Waiting for my next game to start people on it :)
