*An award-winning teen paranormal adventure featured in PEOPLE Magazine *

Hailey's dreams have always been, well...vivid. As in monsters from her nightmares follow her into her waking life vivid.

When her big sister goes missing, eighteen-year-old Hailey finds the only thing keeping her safe from a murderous 3,000-year-old beast is an equally terrifying creature who has fallen "madly" in love with her. Competing to win her affection, the Dream Creature, Asher, lures her to the one place that offers safety--a ParaScience university in Alaska he calls home. There, she studies the science of the supernatural and must learn to live with a roommate from Hell, survive her ParaScience classes, and hope the only creature who can save her from an evil immortal doesn't decide to kill her himself.

About the Author

C.M. McCoy is an Irish dancer and former military officer living in the Great White North. Though B.S.'d in chemical engineering and German from Penn State University, she's far happier writing stories involving Alaska and a body bag (with an awkward kiss in the mix.) While working 911 dispatch for Alaska State Troopers, she learned to speak in 10-codes, which she still does...but only to annoy her family. C.M. is represented by literary agent Michelle Johnson.

This is my new favorite book! Just watch the trailer [...] and you will have an awesome idea about this book. If you love paranormal books and are looking for a simply divine and unique reading experience that will have you flipping through the pages so deep into the book that you wouldn't even notice a tornado right outside your window this is the read for you! WITHOUT GIVING TOO MUCH AWAY: Hailey and Holly are close sisters and Orphan's working in a pub when all hell breaks loose. Hailey finds herself on a quest to find out what happened on a night that would change her life forever. Hailey is also the target of an Envoy (Asher) who has the important task of being her destroyer to save their kind. Asher has a bigger problem because he is also hell bent on saving her as he's fallen in love with her over the years he's watched her. What will he do?!?! you have to read this :D The cast of characters in this book and locations are just awesome, Banshees, yetis, zombies, enyos OH MY! This book is so unique in the paranormal world that I love. I'm fangirling so hard and this is definitely a re-read for me.

Hailey and her older sister Holly have a very strong bond. They have lost both of their parents in a house fire. They waitress and dance at the pub which now belongs to them. When tragedy strikes again and Holly goes missing the people around them are doing everything they can to find her back.

Hailey has always known about the dark creatures and dangers that lurk in de shadows. She has seen evil in her dreams. A boy regularly appears in them and she knows he's dangerous, but he also seems kind. He doesn't scare her.

Asher is an Envoy. An Envoy is not supposed to have feelings. Because of that he is tough and ruthless and many creatures and people fear him. He visits Hailey in her dreams and is surprised about what seeing her does to him. He's having feelings for her and he doesn't know how to handle this.

To keep her safe Asher makes sure that Hailey is attending classes at the ParaScience university in Alaska. Asher lives there so he can keep an eye on her. At ParaScience all the creatures come together (this really sounds like my kind of place). They have a zombie librarian (as long as she won't eat me I'll be fine), a demon barber and Hailey's roommate is a banshee who cries cobwebs. The main building where classes are being held is a haunted house which sways in the wind. Hailey is trying to cope with her new environment and hopes she can track down the one who took her sister.

Every chapter of the book starts with a quote. I really love quotes and I liked this one the best:

"It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see." - Henri David Thoreau

C.M. McCoy made Eerie really creepy, but Hailey is a very strong character, so she can deal with it. That was a big plus for me.

I loved Eerie -- from the Irish dancing sisters, pub location, and intro to a hot bartender it hooked me right from the start. I read it quickly, since I couldn't put it down. The characters were well fleshed out with realistic but quirky responses to the situations they're presented with, while the world-building was imaginative and fun. Loved the descriptions of the paranormal creatures and locations. The chemistry between the Hailey and Finn was palpable as was the twisted but intriguing relationship between Hailey and Asher. Can't wait to find out what happens next! I need the next book now!

Hailey Hartley struggles to fit in. High school isn't a good fit for her or her older sister, Holly. When the unthinkable happens, Hailey has to learn how to continue despite the absence of her sister. As time goes on, Hailey struggles to live her life. With paranormal beings after her, Hailey accepts a scholarship to a university in Alaska. Things don't quite work out the way she or her uncles expect in Bear Towne. Hailey isn't as safe as they all expected.

With unexpected humor and fast-paced writing, C.M. McCoy fashions a world that captures my imagination, and I couldn't wait to read on to the next chapter. I spent the majority of my last twenty-four hours huddled on my couch cushion, plowing ahead, determined to know what happened between Hailey Hartley, Fin, and Asher. The roommate from Hell, Yetis, and bookworms... Definitely a recommended read.

Can't wait for the next one!

Some language. Light romance / steam. Medium gore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark and suspenseful, hilarious and quirky Feb. 24 2016
By Anna (Enchanted by YA) - Published on

My initial reaction of holy c*** was all you could get out of me for hours after staying up late to finish this amazing book and even now, it sums up my mental state pretty well! Dark and suspenseful, hilarious and quirky are not pairings you’d expect to mix well together, yet McCoy has done so effortlessly in this gripping novel that had me on the edge of my seat one minute and then giggling the next.

Bookworms that swelled from too much tea and howled when they didn’t have a novel in their hands (something uncannily relatable…) and clothes that moved of their own free will are just some of the things thrown in to make your day brighter. Then there are the soul wrenching moments (oh the unintentional pain from my pun!) that made me care so much about the protagonist Hailey – you can’t not like her, as Giselle her reluctant non-human friend comes to experience. The relationships she had with her family were genuine and then the ones she developed with Asher and Finn were brilliant.

The romances in this book are... dysfunctional to put it lightly! We have Asher who both loves and wants to kill Hailey, some of the time, which makes him act both creepy obsessive and romantic. (He is not a good guy, with fair reason considering his origins, but he proved himself when push came to shove (I’m just killing myself with these word choices *goes to grieve in corner*)

Then we also have Finn who is a womanizing douche controlled, some of the time, by more powerful douches intent on killing Hailey, which makes him act like an adorable idiot. Out of the two I honestly can’t say who I want her to end up with – though she is quite fine on her own. After that ending everything is up in the air burned to ashes anyway, along with my sanity.

For me the most obvious sign of a good book is one I want to re-read so it seems only fair to label Eerie an awesome book when I want to read it all over again immediately!

4.0 out of 5 stars Eerie is an unexpected, delightfully charming surprise. Jan. 17 2016
By YA Book Madness Blog - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
***I received this book as a gift in exchange for an honest review

You’re looking for quirky and creative paranormal creatures.
You’re not squeamish.
You want to spend the entire day (and night) reading.

Eerie is an unexpected, delightfully charming surprise. Equal parts creepy and inventive, there’s a light-hearted vibe that will keep you going til the bitter end. Romance, murder, mystery, and all things paranormal coupled with Fringe-worthy science, this book is perfect for fans of Eureka, Haven, Supernatural, and X-Files.

Hailey. Where do I even begin? She’s accident prone, awkward, and innocent. Her blushing and foot-in-mouth comments are enough to make anyone giggle. She’s Irish, she does dancing jigs with her sister, and she’s a spur of the moment, in your face kind of gal who will speak what’s on her mind, consequences no matter. She’s probably the most genuinely kind and thoughtful character I’ve read and extremely relatable. She had NO CLUE what she’s doing, it’s a mess, and it makes her incredibly endearing.

I adored EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER. They were complex, funny, unique, everything you could possibly want in characters. I wanted to get to know then and discover everything they were hiding.

There are a massive amount of awesome creatures. From Yetis to carnivorous trees to banshees and bookworms, each is a surprise and so intriguing. I was excited for every new discovery.

Giselle. The monster with hidden depth and a beautiful soul. I love her. She’s witty, sarcastic, perceptive, and deadly. She makes rude comments that you can’t help but laugh at and the more she pushes Hailey away, the more she’ll win you over. I laughed like crazy.

CHEMISTRY. It’s everywhere. You almost get that alien-vibe vs. the funny bff that made Twilight‘s love triangle work so well.
I could not put it down. Unfortunately, I had to because life and edits, but I could not get it out of my mind. Trust me, you’ll enjoy the ride.

The story seemed to get lost halfway through. There’s a big shift in location that completely alters the tone but that’s not the issue. The story becomes romance-centric, so much so that it distracts from the original premise. While the underlying goal is always there, there’s a substantial number of pages purely devoted to back and forth flirting and jealousy.

While there are a ton of description when it comes to scenery and paranormal creatures, where it counted, particularly in details about the main characters, there was very little. I had no clue what Hailey or Asher really looked like (in Asher’s case other than a fleeting mention of his resemblance to James Dean). The description is limited to small tidbits, nothing graphic. I couldn’t get a handle on what they actually looked like other than the notion that they’re all pretty hot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deliciously wonderful book Jan. 28 2016
By Ryan Holdaway - Published on
Format: Paperback
Written by myself, Angie Holdaway, but using my husband's account to ensure review is posted. (he didn't want a lovey-dovey sappy review to tarnish his manly exterior) ha!

I absolutely, positively ADORE this book. From the very first page, I was captivated and thrown deep into Hailey's world. I got to be apart of her family. I felt connected with Hailey and Holly. I fell in love with the Irish uncles; I can hear their accents in my mind. I can see their faces as they sit in the pub and sip their pints. What good craic Irish uncles are known for! The girls would jig and reel their way around the pub. They always loved to dance, together.
When Holly disappears, I felt Hailey's despair. My heart was heavy. But she was in good hands; as this STRANGER that she only knew from her dreams became her reality. Her protector. The intrigue of this sexy, dark, inscrutable non-human provided me with toe-curling suspense.
As Hailey attends PSU (ParaScience University), other brilliant characters are introduced. I am in love with all of them. The Yeti (who are akin to NFL footballers) The tea-drinking Bookworm is a kick. I want to take him home as a pet. The hair-stylin' ghost that lives in Hailey's bathroom, just a child and he likes to pull funny pranks. The Roommate from Hell, a sarcastic and quirky Banshee. The other love interest, a cute, sporty, handsome, boy-next-door that ultimately finds himself in a very dramatic triangle. Oh, it's just delicious.
There are so many more delightful characters, each one just as fun and quirky as the last. All loveable.
McCoy's witty and clever dialogue made me laugh aloud throughout the whole book. The descriptions of the situations Hailey found herself in was pure magic. I was THERE. I could see it. Just incredibly imaginative.
Come and fall deeply into this story with all of its complexities and be delighted. This book is a pleasure to delve into, over and over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fans of Harry Potter will LOVE Eerie Dec 16 2015
By BK Rivers, Author of the Raining Down Series - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Sex: Nope. There's is some steamy lip-locking, though.

Language: Is fairly mild, however there are a few sh*t's and only one f-bomb.

Violence: There is the mention of dismemberment a couple times, along with a few good punches thrown in. There is also the tying of souls which is quite painful to the one it's inflicted upon.

Drugs/Alcohol: The main character takes a few drinks of whiskey or wine.

Nudity: Yes, there is nudity but only because of poltergeists and the pranks they play.

What I Loved: First and foremost, I loved the world building at Bear Towne University in Middle of Nowhere, Alaska. I mean there are yetis, bookworms who drink tea and blow up like balloons, and not to mention the carnivorous splinters and the 30 types of misquitos! The world is so well built, you'll want to journey up north and tour this strange, magical place. The next best thing is Hailey's roommate from Hell, Giselle. She is the complete and total opposite of Hailey: grumpy, dark, brooding, creepy and oh, NOT human. I love that I LOL'd literally a dozen times and that I had that tingly neck pulling feeling at other times (you know the one where you're reading something heartbreaking but you don't cry, you just FEEL the pain? Yeah, that one). I just plain LOVED this book!

Why 5 Stars? This was an easy 5 stars for me because I just simply loved this book! I don't easily give out 5 stars because I do tend to pick out little things like language or cliche endings, but with Eerie, I was so pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the story and the world!

What I want more of: The rest of the story, obviously! Without giving the ending away, I want to know what happens between Hailey and Fin and even Asher, I have so many things I want to when will book 2 be released?!?!

Who Would Like This? Fans of Harry Potter will remember why they fell in love with Harry Potter because of EERIE. C.M. McCoy has created a fantastical world within EERIE at Bear Towne University and Middle of Nowhere, Alaska. You'll love the carnivorous splinters and Giselle, Hailey's roommate from Hell. You'll love Hailey's draw to Asher and the sneaky feelings she feels towards Fin. Seriously, what won't you like?
