I received mine today, but since there are no other reviews I'll go ahead and share first impressions now, and come back and update later. (If I do not update, it's probably because I haven't had any problems, right?)
It's more durable and solid feeling than its picture might make it look. The handles are comfortable. The canister removes and inserts easily and definitely, and there's a handle in the back to make it easier to empty. I never thought I'd be talking about how convenient it is to empty a vacuum, but it's pretty nice. There's also a carry handle on the vacuum (for stairs, etc), which isn't as comfortable, and I usually just grab it "by the neck" to go downstairs. The filters are easy to access and fairly foolproof. The attachments are simple friction fit and also seem fairly durable and foolproof. In general, the machine deserves the "commercial" part of its name. I do worry whether the "snap in place" cover for the HEPA filter may wear out or break over time.
The brush arrangement and wheels are also heavy duty, but again lots of plastic here. Depending on the quality of the plastic this could be no problem, of course--only time will tell. The rear wheels do not spin freely, which I am hoping will become less of a problem with some break-in or a bit of grease. This resistance makes the vacuum feel heavier than it really is.
At the highest setting, the brushes just touch the tops of a 5/8" pile carpet. The medium setting is about right for ruined berber. :) The lowest setting is quite aggressive. I doubt this would be a good choice for a longer shag carpet, but that's unlikely to be a problem for most people.
The canister is big enough to clean quite a large house without emptying. However, the filter will probably need regular replacement [edit! The filter is washable, so I am wrong here--make that *occasional* replacement], so budget for that. It's not a complex cyclonic arrangement, but the positive side of this is that the fine dust gets caught in the filter instead of creating a mess when you empty the canister.
It comes with a spare belt. Will I be needing that? [edited] YES! If the brushes get blocked, say by eating the edge of a throw rug, the belt drive motor can burn through the belt in a few seconds. I am now using the spare belt, and have acquired a very quick reflex of turning off the vacuum when I even suspect that something might get caught in the brushes. I wish it had some sort of protection device.
The cord wrap is recessed slightly and is slightly inconvenient to use. Of course, some commercial users may not even be using that. I don't--I just coil the cord by hand and hang it from the top hook.
As far as actual vacuum (sucking) is concerned, it has lots of airflow, and I like how it cleans.
Emptying, lugging it around, and actual cleaning all are good. At this point I'm assuming the materials quality matches the rest of the design for 5 stars. For now. :)
[addendum] It is basically useless on hard floors. Just so you know.
[dec 2013 verdict] I still like it a lot.
[special bonus] How to destroy the dust filter: wash it by hand in warm water, but then reinstall it in the vacuum before it is completely dry and let it sit for two weeks. Now you will notice that it has totally clogged with mold, will not pass air, and stinks. Be sure to dry the filters completely before reinstalling. :)
Still going strong 3 years later!
Still working well after 4 years. Light, easy to maneuver. Have to remember to knock the dust out of the cap filter. Highly recommend this vacuum.
