John Palmer hasn’t felt like a real man since he was injured during combat in Iraq. Though not content with his new life, he is mostly adapting, just like the other vets at the Lost ‘N’ Found Investigative Service. When Shannon Murphy is hired on as the new office manager, life suddenly gets a lot more interesting. Before long, John finds himself wondering if he could ever be the kind of man Shannon needs.

Shannon Murphy wasn’t really looking for love when she hired on at LNF, but finds herself hopelessly attracted to the sex-on-wheels former Marine, John Palmer. The man is grumpy and nearly impossible to work with, but his brand of masculinity appeals to her on a basic level. Soon Shannon is wondering just what it would take for John to want her the way she wants him.

When an old enemy tries to settle a vendetta against Shannon, John insists on protecting her. He moves into her house, fanning the spark of attraction into a blaze. But the danger continues to escalate. Will the connection that they’ve found survive when they’re thrust into a fight for their lives?

About the Author

Terminally addicted to romances, thanks to finding her aunt's stash of 'Harlequin Presents' years ago during a sleepover, USA Today Bestselling author J.M. Madden loves any and all good love stories. Most particularly her own. She has two beautiful children and a husband who always keeps her on her toes. J.M. was a Deputy Sheriff in Ohio for nine years, until hubby moved the clan to Kentucky. When not chasing the family around, she's at the computer, reading and writing, trying to perfect her craft. She occasionally takes breaks to feed her animal horde, and is trying to control her office-supply addiction, but both tasks are uphill battles. Happily, she is writing full-time now. She always has several projects in the works and loves to hear from readers.

This is a great story; it is actually many stories. It is a thriller, a story of relationships and how they grow, a story of how people deal with loss and guilt. It is also a enlightening and honest revelation of the struggles that returning soldiers have when they leave the theatre of war. No soldier returns unscathed. The physical, emotional and psychological wounds are deep and take a constant effort as the veterans endeavour to find a place to fit in and to keep their demons away. This is presented without pity or cloying sentiment. For that alone, the book is worth having. However, the deeper reveal, of the two main characters, as they pick their way gingerly toward each other's hear,t is a story unto itself. The path is fraught with supressed anger, guilt, feelings of inadequateness, but also glorious passion and self-giving love. On top of all this, the plot line of the thriller keeps things rolling along with many bumps and twists along the way. As background framework, the camaraderie, loyalty, and unflinching empathy, that the group of veterans embody, as they work together at an ingenious organization, that not only puts them together with others who "get" their situation. but also calls on their specific, and well honed skills. This is no pity place to give "busy work" to the injured. This gives the vets a purpose and a sense of duty that helps them heal. While all these aspects lend a deeper meaning to the novel; it is still a GREAT READ, and can be taken as just that, if one wants to simply follow the plot. It will not disappoint!

Need to cleanse your palette and read a story that leaves a hum of "Glad I read that" than Ms. Madden's first book in the Lost and Found series is waiting for you. She introduced the team of Lost n Found and did a wonderful job of creating a suspenseful story and memorable characters. The wounded warriors of the security firm add a twist I've not read before. Shannon and John, the H/H, have great chemistry. A tight story with suspense and a few laughs.

John palmer works for Lost 'N' Found investigative services. Injured in Iraq he's now wheelchair bound. Like all of the other operatives at the agency they have all served in the military, all have been injured in one way or another. John is understandably discontented with his life, he feels less of a man now.

Shannon Murphy the new office manager catches his eye, but he is sure a beautiful girl like her would never look at him. But when a threat from her past returns John steps up to the plate. Shannon is attracted to John, but persuading him of that is no easy task.

Loved this story. The interplay between John and Shannon was great ,he's a real moody grump, while she has lots patience with him. Loved reading about them together. The love scenes were sensitively written, but they were hot.
I'm definitely going to read more from this series.

This story is about Shannon Murphy who is office manager of Lost 'N' Found Investigative Serices which was founded by 3 friends, Chad, Duncan and John. This business is unique in that all the bosses and employees are returned servicemen who have some kind of disability (physical or mental) due to their tours. Shannon has been secretly crushing on John for 6 months and John is drawn to Shannon, too, but he doesn't feel he has anything to offer a woman since injuries he suffered in his tour in Iraq left him in a wheelchair.

Shannon is threatened by a stalker and calls John for help, so he goes right over to protect her. He moves in with her to keep her safe. John calls the entire team at LNF Investigations to help out. Living together gives the couple the chance to figure out how they feel about each other. Shannon is pretty forward so she goes after John, but he still tries to hold back and can't accept that he has a lot to offer Shannon.

I loved this well written book. The author does an amazing job of showing us the difficulties vets have once they are back home. She does this openly and honestly without making us pity them. The character development was excellent. John was grumpy and rude but Shannon was kind and loving. She had to be strong too or she never would have put up with John's moods. It was great how she was able to make him feel like a real man again even thought it was not easy.

I had no idea how bad it could be for returning vets. This story detailed just how difficult it was for John to handle his physical disability which lead to mental issues as well. I really liked this book and recommend it.

This series the LOST AND FOUND starts with the prequel THE EMBATTLED ROAD with this book explaining how the three Marines are wounded and how they become friends. The characters are DUNCAN WILDE, JOHN PALMER AND CHAD LOWELL

This first full book in the series EMBATTLED HEARTS is the romance of JOHN PALMER AND SHANNON MURPHY who works for the three as an office manager.

The story describes some of the difficulties of and worries for a man in a wheelchair when he falls in love
I loved this book but just wished that the author had centred the book more on these problems than the problem Shannon was
having with a vendetta against her and all that happened trying to figure out who was the enemy

I loved John Palmer especially in the prequel, he is a man of few words , with worries about being less than a man who is fortunate
to find love with a very understanding and loving woman.

I just hope maybe in one of the future books of the series , the main focus could be the problems two people would have to overcome when falling in love and one is handicapped, it was mentioned in this book but would love to read one with a larger
focus on those problems

I am now starting to read the second book EMBATTLED MINDS and I guess the next book will be EMBATTLED HOME the story of Chad , can't wait to read it !!!!

PLEASE NOTE: PARTIAL SALES FROM THIS BOOK WILL BE DONATED THE BECK INSTITUTE WHO GIVE SCHOLARSHIPS
TO MEDICAL PERSONNEL WHO TRAIN TO DEAL WITH ACTIVE DUTY AND VET MILITARY PERSONNEL STRUGGLING WITH SUICIDAL THOUGHTS AND STRESS AND DEPRESSION ETC
