Prohibition Era, Chicago

Caught in a raid at an illegal speakeasy, good girl Erin O'Mara loses everything: her job, her home, and her reputation. Handsome and so out of her league attorney Seth Harrison, her best friend's brother, rescues her not once, but twice. He bails her out of jail and offers her a job as nanny for his son.

Seth has no intention of falling in love after the death of his wife. But despite his better judgment, he can't help being drawn to Erin's innocence. This Christmas, letting go of the past and embracing the future may be the greatest present of all.

HASH(0x9cde4210) out of 5 stars So Tweet! July 8 2014

I don't usually read books set in the 1920's. That era, with it's speakeasies and flappers, is not one that I generally like to read. Nevertheless, I decided to give this little short story a try. I'm really glad I did, because I found it to be truly enjoyable. It's very nicely written, and considering how short the book is, the author did a very good job with the development of her characters. Erin is sweet, responsible, hardworking, and loyal. Seth is easygoing, successful, charming, fair, and kind. The two together make a very cute couple. The romance between the two is very touching and sweet.

Erin, a shop clerk, and her wealthy, socialite best friend Abby, and another friend, are all arrested during a raid of a speakeasy. Erin meets Seth when he comes to bail his sister and her friends out of jail--yet again! Seth is immediately drawn to Erin, and she thinks the successful attorney is very handsome. When Erin loses her job as a result of the arrest, Seth ends up offering her a job as nanny to his young son, Ben. From there the story quickly progresses to the HEA.

I loved the interactions between Erin and Seth. From the very first, Seth feels protective towards Erin and feels the need to right everything that is wrong in her life. The sexual attraction between the two is palpable. Seth, especially, has it really bad for Erin, even experiencing erotic dreams about the quiet beauty.

I thought this novella was a delightful read and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a sweet romance. There is one love scene in the story, which although descriptive, is not, IMO, overly graphic and does not involve the use of any crude language. Happy reading!

HASH(0x9cde445c) out of 5 stars Nanny falls for the boss with a '20s flair July 7 2014

The time period is what attracted me to this kindle freebie novella - I like the 20's flapper speakeasy period.

In Erin's Gift department store clerk Erin is talked into a night out with her wealthy friends Abby and Will who take her to a speakeasy which gets raided landing Erin and her friends in jail. The fallout barely affects her friends, but basically costs Erin everything when her boss fires her and her landlady evicts her. But out of the whole mess, Erin ends up with a job as a nanny to Abby's widowed lawyer brother and soon she finds herself falling for both the boss and his son.

This is actually a little Christmas story that was part of an anthology at one point. Other than a bit of period slang and clothing, this 'tropey' story could have been set 'anywhen'. Erin is very sweet - actually both leads are likeable, so the quick little story worked for me.

HASH(0x9cde4420) out of 5 stars The not so ready flapper... July 11 2014

This was a light, fast but entertaining read. Not a lot of detail but I enjoyed the story.

Erin is a clerk in a department story during the roaring 20's, she came from a middle class background but after her parents suffered financial losses she was alone. She still had some friends from her previous life and one of them insisted on having her go out with them for the evening. However when the speakeasy was raided, Erin lost her job and her rented room. When her friend insisted that she live with her family (that was only fair) she was pushed forward as a nanny for the brothers small son. The rest is history - or at least the rest of the story.

One step above sweet, there is sex but its not overly descriptive. This is a very fast read and it was enjoyable.

HASH(0x9cde4714) out of 5 stars Erin Gives Her Heart July 9 2014

A nice book to read before bedtime. I liked how Erin was so totally different from her friend's Abby and Will, yet they were good friends. Add in the fact that Abby and Will were always getting in trouble, and needing the help of Abby's brother Seth, Erin didn't stand a chance. It was so nice to see the interaction between Erin, Seth and Ben, and watch their love for each other grow.

I just couldn't get into this book. I didn't care about the characters at all. Too many great books to read than to try to read this.
