Product Description

True love runs deep.

ON THE WAY TO MEET HER HUSBAND
Young, beautiful Italian mail-order bride Angelina Alessandro is married by proxy to an older man she’s never met—her only chance to escape the poverty of Italy for the hope of a new life in America. But to join him in the wilderness of Idaho in 1899 she’s not allowed to travel alone. Now she’s torn between duty and desire as she fights her growing attraction to her handsome and enigmatic escort.

SHE FELL IN LOVE WITH HER ESCORT
Mine owner and explosives expert Tonio Domani prefers to travel alone. In his line of work he can’t afford distractions. Against his better judgment he’s coerced into playing chaperone to a beautiful and tempting bride. The dangers he faces daily in his mine are real and the increasingly volatile powder keg of North Idaho’s mining country makes his return there even more dangerous. But what scares him most is the rising passion he feels for Angelina and the danger of losing his heart to her.

3.0 out of 5 stars Haven't I read something just like this before? Nov. 4 2013

About half way through this book, I thought the plot and background seemed oddly familiar. Then I remembered reading a story very, very similar (although Irish rather than Italian immigrants). It was uncanny how familiar. When I finished this book, I looked at the author's page and scrolled down to her book, Union. That was it. These two books are nearly identical except one if about Irish miners and one about Italian miners, but both about unions. Anyway, this was okay, but Union is the better written book so if you are going to read one, read it. And once you have read one, you have read the other just replace Irish with Italian.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fairly good but seems unfinished Nov. 12 2013

The good: original story, interesting details and history used. I liked the characters, and loved how the author built the story around the history of the idaho mining as well as the italian immigrants.

The bad: some parts of this story felt unfinished. There was no epilogue, so we dont get a peek of their happily ever after. There were loose ends, such as the first escort, paolo. Angel spent a lot of the book worrying he would come back and take the husbands property, but it was just dropped. What happened to tonio's jacket, did they steal it? In the first part of the book there is a picture if his mother that looks familiar to angel. Who was it? What was nona's relationship to tonio? We never get any answers! Things are thrown into the story but never mentioned again or resolved.

Overall: It had promise, if the author added a few more pages, it would be more satisfying. It was free, so it was worth my time to read it. I just wish it was more focused and more finished.
5.0 out of 5 stars Handsome Antonio is not the typical chaperone... Nov. 9 2013

AN HONORABLE WOMAN--
Angelina Allessandro fled the poverty of southern Italy in the 1890's. Her parents arranged a proxy marriage to an old friend of her father's who had emigrated to the United States and was working as a miner in Idaho. Angelina was to travel to Idaho with her brother-in-law, Paolo, since it wasn't safe or proper for a woman to travel west alone. When Paolo is marked for deportation due to a medical condition, Angelina finds herself stranded in New York City.

A HANDSOME CHAPERONE--
Antonio Domani (Tonio) was in NYC settling the estate of his late uncle. Tonio was part owner of a mine in Idaho not far from the home of Angelina's husband. Although he far preferred to travel alone, he agreed to escort Angelina safely to her destination.

LONGING FOR ONE WHILE PROMISED TO ANOTHER--
As they travelled together, it became increasingly difficult to ignore their mutual attraction; but, there was never any question that Angelina would fulfill her promise to honor the marriage arranged by her family. Awaiting them in Idaho was impending violence between union and mining company factions that would threaten everyone involved. Having delivered her safely, would Tonio hold himself apart or continue to see to Angelina's safety???

THEY BOTH MUST CHOOSE--
The Escort is an engaging read. Gina Robinson's historic information revealed some of the issues facing women, immigrants, and miners in the 1890's. The detail about train travel was very interesting, as well as being essential to the plot. Angelina is a very believable heroine, and Tonio is a swoon worthy hero. I will be looking for more books by Robinson. If you like historic romance, I am recommending The Escort.
4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable! Nov. 10 2013

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would! I was thinking it was going to be a predictable regency type romance story but it is not. The author does an amazing job of telling the story of new immigrants arriving to America and what was going on this new world. Angle and Tonio's love story is woven throughout the book and neither of them are your typical leading man or lady. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because at times I did feel like it was more of a history or period piece than a romance. Overall though, a very good book and I will look for more from Gina Robinson.

This has everything that a good old fashion western novel should have. From immigrants seeking for their piece of America promises to love, honor, and family.
