The Essential Ronald Coase (2021) by L Lynne Kiesling is a good quick, summary of Coase’s work and his contribution to economics. Kiesling is a professor of economics at The University of Colorado.
Coase was a British economist who worked at the University of Chicago. He is best know for his work on the theory of the firm, ways to handle externalities in realistic rather than purely theoretical settings, problems of Monopoly and how public goods can actually be provisioned. Remarkably Coase also lived to 102 and kept working for his whole life.
The book has chapters on Coase’s major work on firms, social costs and public goods. It’s covered in greater depth than wikipedia but the book is still short enough for a quick read to get a good idea of what Coase’s work was about.
The Essential Ronald Coase is well worth a read and has inspired me to go and read some of Coase’s original work.
