Mayra Statham takes us down another intertwining road. The way this author connects her characters throughout each one of her books continues to fascinate me. Not only does she interlace the characters friendships with each other, but she creates this alternative reality within her books where their relationships feed off of each other.
Parker Stone. From the minute you meet him, you are swept off your feet with his masculine beauty, head strung, do whatever it takes, loving personality, and all that makes him Park. This man is perfection, the sweetest temptation in the worst way with a heart full of love. But just like any other man, Parker is beautifully flawed, and shows the lengths he will go to when his newly found relationship with Liz Del Rio is pushed to the limits.
"Every nerve ending in my body is burning bright. Breathing in deep, every pore of mine absorbing her beautiful scent."
Liz. This woman has been through so much from the time she turned ten years old until present day at the age of twenty eight. Strong is an understatement of what she is. She embodies the word strength in every way, shape, and form. This woman has a heart full of glittery goodness, even with her past colliding with her present.. not once but twice!
"His words seep into the core of my being, unlike anything I had ever felt."
The chemistry between these two characters is red hot, the banter is HAR.har.larious, and the love... well the love is freaking magical as they set each other's bodies ablaze, burning bright and intensely.
"We move in sync and I shatter, completely and totally."
Sometimes all that glitters isn't gold, but just because it isn't gold doesn't mean it's worthless. Liz deals with her insecurities as Parker makes her see how much she really is worth. But before her worthiness can be seen, one must go through hell and high waters before hitting the rock bottom of nothing that is pain that harsh words and more cause as the past continues to collide with the present, threatening their future.
"My angel thinks I see a f------ monster, that I see nothing but ugliness when I look at her, and she couldn’t be more wrong. When I look at her all I see is beauty, a f------ warrior princess who'd been through so much, still standing tall in the ashes."
Though there were times throughout the story that I felt the author was a little too "wordy" when it came to descriptions, I absolutely loved this story, the meaning of it, and the strength in the words that make up this powerful journey of finding yourself worthy enough of love. This story showcases the grittiness that this author can create and it is quite different from book one in story line and concept, but just as enthralling and captivating. I smiled, I laughed, and I cried.. oh boy, did I bawl my eyes out, and you will most definitely cry, and your heart will ache as it explodes into jagged edges of agony. But it's all worth it. It's worth it because I fell in love with them as a whole, with the supporting roles of the secondary characters, and with the flawlessly written epilogue. Every single significance, no matter how big or small that tied Parker to Liz took my breath away.
Final Thought: "Don’t let me untie myself from you."
