Product Description

The Over Duet is a story first loves, second chances, and hard truths.

Marlo … wild-eyed, untamed, and every single thing I’ve ever wanted from this life. I wasn’t ready for her back then. I was a stupid boy with adult feelings and no idea what to do with them. I squandered away every chance she gave me.

Yes, a love like ours either burns white hot or crumbles under the pressure.
And now I’m back to sift through the rubble.

Questions and excuses are two things I have in spades. What I need now are answers.

Answers and Low.

Always Low.

My name is Ever Montgomery, and this is my story of love resurrected.

Book 2 of 2 in The Over Duet. Ever Over After is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

About the Author

J.A. Derouen resides in South Louisiana with her husband, son (aptly nicknamed "The Professor"), and her furry friend, Scout. She has earned bachelor’s degrees in psychology and nursing. When she's not writing or inhaling romance novels by the stack, she works as a women's health nurse. She’s been an avid reader and daydreamer since childhood, and she's never stopped turning the page to get to the next happily ever after.

Ever Over After is the highly-anticipated conclusion to J. A. DeRouen’s Over Duet. If you have not read book #1, Low Over High, I recommend that you go back and read it prior to starting EOA. Low Over High ended with a cliff-hanger and had me counting down the days until I could get my hands on book 2!

Ever Over After takes place 8 years after Low Over High. Ever and Marlo’s paths have crossed again and Marlo immediately throws all her walls up, determined to keep Ever away. Ever is willing to do whatever it takes to bust through those walls and is just as determined to prove to Low that he deserves a second chance.

"Give me more of a chance than you think I deserve... so I can prove you wrong."

In Low Over High, your heart broke for Ever and Marlo, and in Ever Over After you will find joy in their healing.

This story is heartbreaking and beautiful. It will make you smile, laugh, swoon, and possibly cry. The Over Duet has definitely made it onto my 2017 list of book recommendations! 4.5*Stars

I was so happy when this one popped up on my iPad! After reading the first book in the duet (Low Over High) I couldn’t wait to see how the story turned out. Marlo was one of my favourite characters in J.A. DeRouen’s previous books so I was beyond excited that we were getting not one but two novels to tell her story.

The story that unfolded between Marlo and Everett was an emotional journey that was absolutely heart-wrenching. Both characters were complex and J.A. DeRouen did an amazing job of getting the reader to understand the journey each character had to take in order to get to a place where they could be happy, not only on their own but together.

After the events of the first book (which I won’t go into too much detail on for those of you who haven’t read it yet!) I was really happy about how the relationship between Remy and Everett ended up. Jeb was once again a favourite in this second part, so I’ve got my fingers crossed that we haven’t seen the last of him! One thing I was expecting in this story was a scene where Marlo had to explain her connection to Everett and Jeb to the people who were now in her life. I felt like a piece of the story was missing in that regard.

I definitely think that The Over Duet was J.A. DeRouen’s best work yet. I am always concerned that I won’t like the second novel to a duet or series as much as the first and I’m thankful to say that, that definitely was not the case here. Both stories were equally as engaging and interesting and I couldn’t put them down.

I'm so sad that the series is coming to an end. I just love these characters! And this latest release was just what I had hoped. No, more. It was more than that. I loved it even more than Low Over High.

Ever knows he made a mistake all those years ago. But he was just a boy. And now he is a man and he won't stop until he makes it right. He is not giving up and he won't give up Marlo either. However, Marlo doesn't make it easy for him. She does her best to resist him and after all that she's experienced, I can understand why she doesn't want to rely on anyone. But the chemistry between her and Ever cannot be denied. While Marlo might want to keep feelings out of their physical attraction, Ever won't allow it. He wants it all and wants Low to feel it with him. It's not long before Marlo realises that no matter how hard she tries, Ever will break down her defences. But once the walls crumble, will Ever still be there for her?

I was so excited to see Jeb again! He is such a fun and likeable character. And while he is a little bit ticked off with Marlo for leaving without saying goodbye, he is glad to see her:
"C'mere, girl. It's been too long. I need to squeeze you." His voice drips with affection, and my nose burns as I push back happy tears.

He is adorable! And the playful banter he has with Ever is hilarious! Of course, Marlo has Sara with her and the laughs are always there too. Like in this example:
"Ho Hos and Ding Dongs, coming right up," she chuckles.
I groan. "No talk of Ho Hos, Ding Dongs, or coming, until I get some sleep or get laid like a boss," I mumble as I shuffle to the door.

This book... what more can I say? It touches on real issues and gives us so much hope and love that everyone should read it.

Let me start with a confession. I did not read the first book in the duet. While I like second chance romances, I find it harder to "forgive" when I know the back-story in too much depth. Therefore, knowing that this second chance romance was being broken into a duet, where the first was mostly focused on the past (or the "origin" love story), and the second book was focused on the present (or the 'second chance' love story), I made the decision to only read the second. Therefore, this review may not be for you if you are a purist about reading orders.

This is the story of Ever and Marlo. They were in love when they were teenagers, but due to a number of life-altering events, Marlo left Ever. This book picks up 8 years after the fact. Even without reading the first book, the author does a great job of orienting the reader. While we did not get flashbacks of their origin love story (as the assumption probably is that most people will read both parts of the duet), she gives enough context that I was able to grasp that both Ever and Marlo really cared about each other, and it wasn't a case of first or puppy love.

Eight years into the present, both of them are different. The book is told in alternating points of view, and you can see as they work through finding each other again. Except, it wasn't really finding each other. Ever first had to find himself, and when he was ready and strong enough, he was ready to chase Marlo--and what a chase!

DeRouen has a great writing style, and I can feel Marlo's turmoil about whether to open herself to trusting Ever again, while also being able to root for Ever. Since I hadn't read the first book in the duet, I didn't have any resentment or heartbreak from the "failure" of the origin love story.
