Found that this is a series that seriously benefits from the extra oomph of HD. Blu-Ray version definitely recommended!
The shooting of the episodes is often a little to dark to see much. Like they were masking cheap effects. Sound quality on the dvd leaves to be desired too. Using subtitles so not to miss parts of the dialogues.
The story itself is excellent and the acting is good, The description of colonisation of the solar system seems realistic, Makes me want to buy the books.
The politics in this show are the main driving force, but do not get a lot of screen time, surprisingly. First and foremost The Expanse is a character drama, with spurts of science fantasy action. Politics steps in to explain previous mysteries, or foreshadow events to come. Overall this mixture works well, and does not linger too long on one element or another. The action is not senseless, and the politics do not slow the pace of the show. The case is a diverse mixture of races and genders, and is full of strong characters and enigmas that play off each other well.
I highly recommend The Expanse for fans of sci-fi such as Firefly or Battlestar Galactica. This series is sometimes lauded as "Game of Thrones in space" which I find to be pandering and reductionist. Firefly fans can enjoy the repartee of a close-knit crew on a ship that isn't all it appears to be, while BSG fans can enjoy politics mingled with sci-fi critiques of morality and a sprinkling of action to entertain both crowds.
A note on the Blu-ray: Its perfectly serviceable, and you do get the Ultraviolet download, but there are next to no extras. Really. Just a couple of deleted scenes from the first episode.
It has strong emotional moments, some scary parts, and lots and lots of good sci-fi.
I watched it when it played on TV, and then again when I got my blu-ray of the series. It has great re-watch value.
I am very much looking forward to season 2.

Visually stunning sci fi. Is too political for my liking though and the acting is mediocre at best.Published 17 days ago by Patrick J. Mccoy

This show is amazing, the books are even better. The visuals, acting and story are outstanding. Syfy's best new series in years, I hope it gets the attention it deserves.Published 2 months ago by HKalks
Perhaps the most intelligently made science fiction series made for television so far, with the possible exception of the original Star Trek series.Published 2 months ago by Peter R. Jensen
excellent future tech.....and strange for a change for a film to take note of the time it takes to get anywhere.Published 2 months ago by Richard A
