I didn't like this book because it is almost just recipes and they all, yes all, are only with extract, no all-grain version. I difficultly see how you can be extreme if you just brew with extract. So, if you are an all-grain, you could buy this book if you just want to take some ideas to make your own "extreme recipe". I'd give a better rating if it was clearly announced like it.

This is a book which has too many brews with too high a target Alcohol By Volume. Better make sure that your guests have a designated driver. Not a good buy for other than the flashy brewer.

HASH(0xa1419c90) out of 5 stars Too basic April 11 2013

if you are just beginning to brew and need the basics, buy How to Brew by Palmer.
If you think to buy this to be more creative than don't. The books brags about some things they came up with but is then very shallow about them.

Go to an exotic restaurant and you are sure to get more extreme brewing ideas.

I bought this book because I read Sam's other book, Brewing up a Business which I loved.

HASH(0xa1419edc) out of 5 stars Is extract brewing "extreme brewing"? March 19 2014
By Oz - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Honestly, I was expecting a lot more than this from mr. Calagione under the title "Extreme Brewing". There are some interesting tips on what to add to your brewing, but e.g the introduction to brewing was extremely basic and based on extract, not all grain. For this part, buy "How to brew" instead.

Some OK tips on recipes.

Not a "Must have"
HASH(0xa1419ea0) out of 5 stars Mostly flash, a little substance. Dec 6 2015
By B. Anderson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This is the homebrewing version of a celebrity cookbook: a lot of flash, some good ideas, but not a lot of substance. "Extreme Brewing" offers up some crazy beers, but all of the recipes use malt extract. This seems strange to me, as many, if not most, of the brewers who are experienced enough to pull these recipes off are probably brewing all-grain. Any beer recipe book worth its salt should at least include notes on substituting grain for extract, as in "Brewing Classic Styles" by Jamil Zainasheff. My advice is to spend your money on brewing software like Beersmith instead and join Homebrewtalk.com to get recipe ideas from guys who know what they're talking about.
The book is pretty, with a lot of great photos and a sleek design. It will look good on a coffee table. For my money, though, I'll get my recipes for free and learn how to tweak them to suit my desires. Cheers!

HASH(0xa3e933b4) out of 5 stars Extreme Brewing -- but extract only Nov. 10 2012

This is a very enjoyable book. I enjoy Sam's commercial brews from Dogfish, too. I do wish that Sam had included the all-grain versions of the recipes, though.
HASH(0xa3e9324c) out of 5 stars Took extreme to be All Grain June 18 2013
By James - Published on Amazon.com

The title is a slight misnomer, as I thought there would be more all grain recipes in this book. However, it is an interesting read, and there are certainly some extreme ingredients in some of the recipes.
