I've never experienced a more annoying game with long boring animations, and long unnecessary explanations between every single activity. The game takes ~2 minutes to start up. The developers didn't think to allow you to skip any of these annoyances. You have to sit through them every time is seems.
Another vitally important aspect that the developers completely ignored - this game is for kids, but the controls and menus are too complicated for a child to follow or use so it required constant adult supervision. They could have designed the game to work entirely from a couple of buttons but instead they make use of most of the buttons on the move controller. They should have made the game flow naturally without the constant need to visit the menu screen. My 4 year old constantly gets stuck and bored asking "What else can I do?" or "It's not working...".
Otherwise, if you have the patience, my 4 year old is having fun with it.
Unforunately, EyePet & Friends has been a HUGE disappointment. The same exact Move setup, with identical bright (or dim) lighting that works for the original EyePet game will NOT work for EyePet & Friends in 2 player mode.
At the beginning of the game, you calibrate the controllers, and then need to scan an egg for health and then it will hatch. In TWO player mode, the health scanners simply do not work. Neither egg can be scanned for health, and the game is just stuck in a loop where the instructions to scan the egg just keep repeating. The game is physically tracking the move controller properly, but it does not activate the actual scanner. However, in ONE player mode, the scanner works immediately and the game proceeds as planned.
This bug has also been reported on the European Playstation offical forums, but this bug has NOT been fixed as of 1/1/2012.
Unfortunately, as the whole point of this game for my kids was to play together in TWO player mode, and this mode simply does not work, I cannot recommend this game at all.
The kids were ecstatic and played it heavily for about 3 days. Then they played a couple times a week. Then they got bored. Now, they only play when friends are over and they want to show it off. Otherwise, they are much more interested in games with more creativity options (LBP), or games with more goals and rewards. This games delivers on being unique and interactive, and it can definitely be fun to play with the animal for a while. Unfortunately, it seems to fall short on things needed to keep the kids interested and coming back to play it over the long term.
