Searching thru many brick and mortar electronic shops searching for a device with software I started to do some online searches and found a wide variety of software and peripherals that do conversions. Now some were fairly cheap, and some were very very expensive ( some of the higher priced one made me think if I am spending that much that I ought to be considered major investor in the company ) So after looking at various different methods and software and peripherals and reading many many reviews from others who had bought and experienced the good and bad with their attempts to covert media I narrowed down a list of potential items to just a handful.
From this point it was time to do some more fact finding and look on the web at other users of the various product and their experiences in how they fared in their attempts at converting media to the new age so to speak. After reading and watching various reviews and their experiences with these handful of products. So the decision was made to give the Ezcap cable and software from Amazon.
Now I watched some videos of people who had purchased this product and read the reviews here at Amazon from others who had purchased the Ezcap product. After reading some of the Amazon users experiences there were customers who said it was a breeze and others who said they had issues trying to get the sound to work, but for the low price the Ezcap software/peripherals were listed at here at Amazon and the reviews tended to be more on the positive side, it was well worth the risk in my mind.
The Ezcap product arrived in a couple days ( thanks to Amazon's fast shipping ) and it was time to get it the software loaded and get the old camcorder and VHS media ready to try the first conversion to digital media. So I opened the instructions that came in the package and read everything to make sure I followed the correct procedures to load the software on to the computer and to make sure that all the files and drivers were installed by the software to make the conversion to digital were now on my computer.
( I did read that some reviewers were saying they had drivers missing or that some parts of the software would not install, which led to them not being able to use their Ezcap software at all or that the video portion would work but the sound was missing on their attempt to convert their file to a digital format )
So now I had the Ezcap software loaded on my computer, now it was time to connect up the Ezcap's peripheral cable to my computer and to the old camcorder to aid the transfer of media to my computer. The directions were fairly clear on how to connect up the devices, so their was no hair pulling or cursing involved, set up on this part was super easy.
Now that we were all connected up it was time to start the conversion of the first video file. After opening up the software I looked thru the various aspects of the format type I could save my digital conversion to and selected the ones I wanted audio and video wise based on sound and video quality.
So I got the video playing on the camcorder and got the conversion software started. Now for my first attempt I made sure to only record a 45 second clip of the video I wanted to convert to a digital file as a test run to make sure everything was working correctly for the audio and video portion of the video software, this was done because some of the reviewers had trouble with no sound upon playback after they had done a conversion.
Well I opened the converted 45 second clip in one of my computers media players and their was no sound....Uh-Oh.. Houston, we have a problem I thought to myself. So My first thought was lets go and check my preferences I chose to make my fist conversion, at first everything looked good....but then I noticed that I had inadvertently left the choice of where the conversion software is getting the audio from on my laptop to the selection of microphone, and changed that to speakers.
After making that change I deleted the previously recorded 45 second clip, and went to make a new 45 second test clip to see if my next conversion attempt would have the sound it mas missing after the first test clip. So I made my conversion software selections for the media type and sound quality I wanted to have for my second test clip. Once the selections were made, it was time to try the for the conversion, so I let it roll. After the 45 seconds were up, I went and loaded that 2nd converted file into my media player, crossed my fingers and hit play... and.Success!!! My 45 second test clip had audio and video and worked like a charm.
So Now it was time to convert the whole graduation ceremony from a video file to a digital file, I once again selected my video and audio preferences I wanted the digital file to have and started the conversion file. Next it was sit back, relax, walk the dog and then come back and see if I had the same success I achieved with my second test converted file. After my furry friend and I finished our walk, it was time for the big reveal to see if I got the same result as my second test file.
Once again I fired up my computers media player and loaded my newly converted digital graduation ceremony file and hit play, the conversion worked perfectly I had sound and video that worked flawlessly.
One of the things I was vary very impressed with was the sound quality I got from my newly converted digital file, it was very clear and very easy to hear the sounds from the music to the people that spoke at the ceremony. The video portion of the newly converted file was also superb, I was quite impressed with it.
My experiences with the Ezcap software have been very satisfying and more than happy with the results., The software and peripherals are easy to set up and the ease of use with the program to make your conversions are really really easy to use and very user friendly. The software also allows you to add some effects and text to your digital converted file. While I played with this and added some information to my newly converted file along the lines of adding in the name of the occasion and date. Overall there is a lot of bang here for your buck, you can convert video to digital files with ease and you don't need an engineering degree to work the software or it's features.
It doesn't cost and arm and a leg, and it allowed me to convert my video files to digital on my own time and at minimal expense and is a lot cheaper than having it done professionally or with having to invest in machines to do this type of conversion. The conversion process allowed me to go and do other things and let the Ezcap software do it's thing converting the file to digital, All I had to do was come back and make sure to stop the recording once my video ended and save it.... that easy!
So if your looking for a cheap, budget friendly way to convert old files from video to a digital format, and be able to share them with family and friends simply be sending a file to them give the Ezcap software and peripherals a try, I am glad I did and at the price you find it here on Amazon, you really cant beat it.
Although it comes with minimal written instructions, complete instructions are available on the enclosed software CD.
For it's reasonable price I don't think that I could have done better for what I wanted to do.
Make sure you figure that out before handing the Ezcap to your kid and watch joy turn to sorrow ;)
at the same time you will need some RCA connectors, or a RCA hub depending on how you want to connect it these are also not included and bought local for a few bucks each (the source, walmart, best is the dollar store lol) or you can get them off amazon a 5 pack for a couple bucks shipped free from china so...... Weeks away. (thats just the connectors) the hub is more but faster to get (amazon)
Lots of youtube videos on setup and operation the software is simple and effective (from my laptop Im still waiting on the proper cords for the console) reviews say its not super quality but that's to be expected from the inexpensive price BUT for a first time youtuber or someone who wants to record gaming for personal or friends it is great and great for converting old media to current tech. Over all worth the money
Used the device for more than eight consecutive hours without any problem
Kind of an annoying setup - one of the other reviews explains how to get the sound working... THANK YOU DUDE. I probably would not have figured that out myself.
Finally transferring all my old class projects to digital copies, which is super satisfying. Saved one into an mp4 format, and the quality is a little odd - lots of horizontal lines through one of my animations when something moved too quickly.
Still ok though.
Would recommend. Very useful!
Video output to pc usb is clean and very nice quality
Unit appears well made and works very well
The enclosed software is at best poor.
The drivers on the Cd worked well
It works well as a camera capture for vmix software.

It does what it should at an ok level. I still ended up buying a 20 inch LED HDTV though so yeah you can tell I wanted more. Now if we're talking about recording, that's where this thing shines. Usually you record something, then use programs like CamStudio or Sony Vegas etc to touch it up and make it look great. For me, this thing records pretty clean. No video lag, no audio lag, the recordings sound great, loud, and show clearly. I've even just started recording gameplay and uploading the raw files just the way they are cuz it looks so good.
I've seen other people complain so I dunno, I can only speak for myself, and as a recorder, I'm very pleased with it. As a tv replacer, meh...could have been a little better for the price.
Let me go a little deeper.
This device has the worst driver and support system ever. Nothing but fakes and bad programs (spam... etc) are littered around every corner. Even when I had found a copy of the real disc over the internet from a warez site. That disc offered spam and improper support for the product at hand.
easycap, EZcap.... its just all crap.
The device when fully running and up to date is laggy and busted on even a 3.7 GHz 24 core, 3 radeon 6970, 48 gigabytes of ram monster of a pc.
It also got very hot when I finally managed to get it to display video. Laggy, compressed video.
Support for NES, Snes, Dreamcast, CDI, Atari ETC. Is not there. The CDi works at 10fps but the Snes doesn't work at all?
240p,360,480.... Nothing means nothing. It just doesn't work.
Getting a refund was such a pain in the ass I just kept the product and put it in my work room. Incase I feel like I want to take a mallet to something someday in the future.
