Of course, the safety razor and the cream you use also make a difference, as does your technique and pre-shave preparation. But overall, the blade is probably the most important variable.
Obviously, since we all have different skin and hair, results will vary person to person. This is just my experience with these blades. Just so you know what my blades were up against, I am 22, of Indian descent, with course black facial hair. I used them to shave both my face and head. Now then:
The "Astra", "Bluebird", and "Derby" blades were all pretty mediocre. There was a lot of pulling and irritation, especially on my neck. These are the cheapest brands, and it quickly becomes clear why.
The "Shark" blade was the absolute worst. So much tugging...so little shaving. In fact, of the whole pack the Shark blade was the only one that cut me. I still have a scar two months later!
The "Gillette Super Chrome" was okay. I wouldn't use it again, but it was better than all of the above.
The "Gillette Super Platinum" was excellent. Delivered a very smooth, irritation-free shave. It wasn't the sharpest blade, but it delivered a smooth, consistent shave, and lasted a very long time (6 shaves in total, 3 on each side).
Finally, the "Feather" blade was the also excellent.Read more ›
For the price you are getting months of shaving done and then you can just buy the ones you know work for you...great bargain.
I would rate them as
2) Gillette 7 Oclock
I was extremely dissapointed with the Astra mainly because of how popular they are. I was able to get about 2.5 shaves out of the feather and almost 2 shaves out of the gillette the rest either only got 1 shave in before pulling or didn't even finish a whole shave before pulling.
Through using these blades, one can definitely come to a conclusion as to which blade is their favourite.

As a newcomer to double-edge blades, I benefitted from the variety of blades in the pack. The price point is steep though - you're really paying for the variety you get.Published 3 months ago by Adam
A good selection of some great blades. A good way to figure out which blade suits you best.Published 4 months ago by J
Bit expensive for the lot but the idea is/was to allow me to narrow down the make of blade that works best for me.Published 8 months ago by Amazon Customer
Astra, 7 O'Clock and Gillette (blue) were pretty good. Derby was so so and Bluebird and Shark went straight to the bin without opening them!Published 19 months ago by Jean Nouzeilles
I was surprised how different each brand of blades were from each other. This lets you determine what works best for you.Published on April 15 2014 by Scott Hale
