Product Description

Imagine a social outcast: Me. (Luna)
Imagine a popular boy: Him. (Caleb)
Sound like the characters of a cliché story, right? Here, hold my hand. Come away with me. I’ll tell you my story, and you’ll decide.
But I have a warning: Proceed at your own risk. Since it’s a snippet of my life, I’m one of the main characters. And to put it lightly, I’m not the most likable person in the world, cue the earned label. Also, unlike fairy tales, my story is real with a dash of sorrow and loss.
How do I start? Once upon a time…? Shoot me now, please.
The beginning? No, too boring.
Well, let’s start with the catalytic moment that set in motion a chain of events that changed my life, yet again.
As for a happily ever after? Sorry, no spoilers here. You’re going to have to figure that one out on your own. After you read my tale, it becomes yours, and as such, you’re entitled to your interpretation.
So, off we go!
Fasten your seat belts. This ride may get bumpy.
AUTHOR’S NOTE: Due to strong language and graphic sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

3.0 out of 5 stars Heartbreaking, angsty, and surprisingly hopeful... May 16 2016
By B from Prisoners of Print - Published on

3.5 Stars - Fall Out Girl was my first novel from L. Duarte and it was a whirlwind of emotion from start to finish. I was immediately intrigued with Luna, captivated by the pain and anger she carried around at such a young age and the type of life she seemed so hell-bent on living. Further reeled in by the unusual connection between Luna and Caleb, I found myself determined to explore their entertaining and surprisingly sweet dynamic. Fall Out Girl was filled with vibrant imagery that brought this story to life. L. Duarte writes with heart, her passion for this story evident on each and every page. Her thoughtful prose was breathtaking, oftentimes taking on a lyrical quality that soothed the ache in my heart brought on by the emotional turbulence of this story.

Admittedly, I had a hard time getting into this story at first. Luna’s inner monologue was strange at times, bordering on trying too hard to be clever. As the story progressed, her voice matured and I found myself better appreciating her sassy quips - their less frequent occurrence feeling far more genuine. L. Duarte skillfully juxtaposed the two sides of Luna to create the stormy emotional environment of this novel. As the author unraveled this character, I found myself in awe of the fierce love Luna exhibited towards those she cared about. Her misguided but touching self-sacrifice quickly became my favorite thing about this character. While I liked Caleb overall, this character was somewhat inconsistent. His initial voice came across as age-appropriate with the added maturity of someone who had been through a lot in his life. However, the language used in Caleb’s more intimate moments with Luna was more than just experienced, it was that of someone much older, especially when contrasted with the incredibly childish behavior that followed (even with eventually understanding his motivations). As we got to know Caleb over the course of the story, hints of his own pain began to trickle giving this character more depth. I really enjoyed the tenacity with which Caleb pursued Luna. His disregard for the high school social agenda endeared him to me immediately and is what kept me so invested in him.

Fall Out Girl isn’t a pretty story. It’s raw and gut wrenching and sometimes devastating. But it’s also beautiful, hopeful, and poignant. The storyline that L. Duarte has put together is a veritable rollercoaster, a whiplash of highs and lows that left me reeling. While I enjoyed the drama and angst that this story evoked, the pacing was uneven, saving the majority of the major turmoil for the second half while the first half of the novel didn’t do much to move the story forward. With all of the action consolidated at the end of the story, there were definitely some things I felt needed more explanation but the end result wasn’t dissatisfying. Fall Out Girl was certainly an enjoyable read and L. Duarte didn’t hesitate to stir up some difficult and raw emotions. Her characters were interesting and the storyline intriguing. I will definitely be on the lookout for more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars A BEAUTIFUL STORY THAT HAD ME CRYING….BUT SO WORTH IT April 26 2015
By Maria Poli-Rosie's Book Heaven - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Teenage years; the transitional stage from childhood to adulthood. Teenagers are carefree, moody, and peer pressure can be insurmountable. Senior year is the year to have fun and prepare for prom. But, for Luna this is not the case, she is just trying to survive and come out alive at the end.

Luna is tough, a badass drug pusher; nobody messes with her. She has no friends and that is just how she wants it. Everybody has a perception of Luna. She has a plan and what everybody else thinks about her is not important. She does not need any distractions. Her goal is only one: ESCAPE and take her cousin Jake with her. But who is she, really? She is trying to survive and get out of a really bad situation alive.

Caleb comes from a rich family; his father is the new judge in town. He is loving, a romantic, has a good heart and he is persistent. All the girls want Caleb, but Caleb seems to only want one girl, Luna. He is the one thing Luna does not need: a distraction! When Caleb walks into Luna’s life she starts to have feelings. He slowly starts to break down her walls and expose the real Luna.

There will be moments that you will not like Luna and there will be moments where you won’t like Caleb. But, read on.

This is a beautiful story about survival. A story about dealing with the bad that life throws at you. No matter how well thought out a plan is, always have a plan B, because things don’t always work out as you plan. It is a beautiful story; have your tissues ready because you will be crying. But hang-on, it is so worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fall Out Girl March 27 2015

I always love a really good New Adult contemporary romance, and that is what you'll get with this book Fall Out Girl, from the absolutely gorgeous cover to the amazing story inside, this book is close to perfection and a joy to read.

Luna is a drug dealer to survive this is what she has to do, after the death of her Father she is sent to live with her Aunt Lace and cousin Jake, her Aunt is a drug addict and what money she gets goes towards her addiction, so to pay for bills and food both Luna and Jake take up drug dealing selling to students at their high school.

When Luna meets Caleb it's not exactly like at first sight, on her side anyway, but Caleb is persistent and eventually convinces Luna to go out with him, with Luna the school's social outcast and Caleb who is one of the rich popular kids, their differences are vast but these two fit, and throughout their tumultuous relationship one thing that is clear is the love these two share.

With an ending that will have you reaching for the tissues there is never a dull moment.

I thoroughly enjoyed Luciana's writing, so much so that I finished this in one sitting, I was enraptured from the very first page, I will certainly be picking up her other books

One of my favorite books of the year so far I urge everybody to pick this book up!

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING STORY!!! MUST-READ!!!! March 27 2015

What an AMAZING book!!! Ill be honest, the first thing that got me was the beautiful cover, then I read the blurb and I was definitely interested! This is the first book I read from this author, so I was unsure what to expect...but what a lovely surprise I got!!!
This book left me speechless after I finished. It was an emotional rollercoaster!! Once I was at about 50%, I kept swiping my kindle pages as fast as I could. ..I wanted (no, Needed) to know what happened next!!!
Uughh, its been a full day and I still cant stop thinking about this book.
The writing was phenomenal! The narrator was so raw/real/down to earth (you can see that in the synopsis :)) The plot was very unique. I loved the character development of the H/h, but especially of the heroine (narrator). It's like you go through this self-discovery road with her and you live through her pain/sorrow/happiness/love/heartbreak, many feeeelsss!!!
Enough of me blabbing and go give this book a read!!! #oneclickaway

5.0 out of 5 stars Fall out girl April 30 2015

I actually really liked this book. It is really hard to find a good romance book with good writing and characters who don't just magically fall in love with each other. The main character was amazing and I loved that she was not one dimensional. I was also pleased to see that the outcast and popular boy story was not as cliche as I imagined it would be. The one thing I did not like was in the end. Luna was upset about how Caleb treated her and the readers never got a full confrontation of the problem. Overall I was happy with this book and encourage people who want a strong, hilarious female character to read it.
