Product Description

This is the fourth book in the Love and Music in Texas series, but each book can be read as a stand alone.

What goes up must come down...

Kyra Sanders had a promising career in country music in her teen years. She gained popularity and fame, riding high atop the the charts. Then one deadly accident changed things, sending her spiraling downward to the point she went into a hiatus from music.

Six years later, Kyra's making her return to the music scene. With an album in the works and a new song on the radio, her career is back on track, until a call from Texas with news of an accident forces her to halt her plans.

Matt Greer is working through the aftermath of his ex-wife's abandonment when she chose to leave him and their fourteen year old son to pursue her own musical dreams. He's had enough of troubled musicians and the havoc they bring to his life. Kyra surprises him in a good way, but it doesn't mean he wants anything to do with a singer who comes to town with trouble on her trail.

It's hard to avoid each other in a small town, especially when their families are close. Matt should stay away from the woman who could lead danger right to their town, and it's possible she already has, but he can't help how drawn he becomes to her.

The sparks ignite, but danger lurks in the distance, only getting closer as time goes on. For two people who want different things out of life, it's possible to find healing together...

Kyra Sanders was a teenage country sensation when an accident caused her to take a break from music and now she has come home after her parents were involved in a suspicious accident.

Matt Greer is a single father raising his teenage son after his ex-wife abandoned them in hopes of making it big time as a singer.

When the two come together after an accident Matt immediately dislikes Kyra due to what she stands for but soon realizes she is way more authentic than what he thought possible.

The two both need to overcome their pasts in order to have a future together but it appears that somebody is after Kyra and Matt will do whatever it takes to keep her safe. Yet will he be there when she needs him the most?

I think the author did a great job of explaining anxiety and what Kyra was going through. This book was a great read and I can't wait to read the other books in this series! The author kept me in suspense over who was involved with everything!

Music fame, love, redemption, and the unpredictability of life are all part of this novel. The main character Kyra Sanders was a star in the world of country music until a terrible accident occurs. A few years later she is ready for a comeback, but something else gets in the way.

During this second chapter of her life, Kyra meets Matt Greer, a man who wants to avoid a relationship with a musician. The music industry has impacted his life and that of his son.

I can’t tell you anymore without spoiling the book for you. It is well written, with plot twists, and lots of emotional ups and downs.

I haven’t read the first three books in this amazing series. This book stands alone, but now I’m curious about the rest!

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Put it Down April 21 2016
By Kindle Customer - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Just about every book I read by Nikki Lynn Barrett has points where I laugh, where I cry and where I want to throw my Kindle against the wall in frustration because you want to slap a character upside the head and tell them to get on with it (but then you remember all of the books stored on your Kindle and take a deep breath instead) – all signs of an awesome book. Fallen Idol is another such book.

This story will keep you on your toes from start to finish. Someone is out to make sure Kyra does not have the comeback she is working towards. After a tragic crash six years ago, for which Kyra took the blame, that left someone dead, Kyra went into seclusion to try and get herself put back together. She lives with the guilt of the crash and the subsequent loss of her friends every day. After shutting even her family out, it takes the hospitalization of both of her parents to break Kyra out of her shell enough to leave Nashville.

As she arrives in Texas, she is in a car crash on her way to see her parents. When the tow truck arrives, she meets Matt – tow truck driver, mechanic and close friend of her family. What she doesn’t understand is Matt’s immediate hostility towards her. Matt has been burned by an ex-wife who abandoned both him and their teenage son in order to pursue a music career, and he projects that hostility onto Kyra believing that she is like his ex-wife.

Matt quickly realizes that Kyra is nothing like his ex, but both he and Kyra struggle against their growing feelings for each other as she is due to head out on the concert trail soon. As they give in to their feelings for each other, they agree to find a way to try and make things work when Kyra gets back from her tour. But someone out there is intent on making sure Kyra doesn’t make a comeback. As events escalate, they realize that both Kyra and her family are in true danger from an unknown assailant.

This book is full of twists and just when you think you have everything figured out, you realize that you don’t. Is Matt and Kyra’s burgeoning love strong enough to withstand the pressure and will Matt be able to protect Kyra when the time comes? This is a great story with wonderfully developed characters. You also get to see characters that were introduced in prior entries in the series. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romantic suspense.

5.0 out of 5 stars OMG what an amazing book. Kyra Sanders reminds me of LeAnn Rimes ... March 31 2015
By Gina Rose 1 - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. OMG what an amazing book. Kyra Sanders reminds me of LeAnn Rimes in her early years before she went all crazy and grew up to be like Carrie Underwood! Breaking into the country music scene at an early age having a ton of hits and then all of a sudden an accident changes all of that for her, and she goes away from the spotlight for awhile.
Matt & Andrew Greer a handsome father & son, one who is bitter about musicians and the son who is just learning who he is in this world, and leaning towards music, OMG, sounds like a country song right?
what happens when you think all musicians are the same? what happens when you battle 6 years worth of demons? and what happens when you can no longer trust the people you thought you could count on?
This is a good ol' fashion romance novel, no heavy sex scenes, no heavy foul language, its nice to read a romance novel and get pure romance, it's a great book, and it teaches you about love, forgiveness and proves love is better the second time around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another wonderful book in the Love & Music in Texas series. April 3 2015
By Kris - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Fallen Idol is book 4 in Nikki Lynn Barrett's Love and Music in Texas series. This book tells Kyra and Matt's story.

Like all of Barrett's stories, this book features a few surprises and bumps along the journey. I like this aspect of her writing, because it always adds that little bit of oooh what's gonna happen now to the reading. I love how each little incident really builds on to the rest of the story and adds something important.

Matt was a wonderful character. He was a great father to his son and really came off as very selfless. Though he also had deep hurts from his past. Because of these hurts he initially misjudges Kyra based solely on his own opinions of what her character should be.

Kyra has her own struggles, once a teen idol, an accident took it all away. But now Kyra is making a comeback and trying to move on from a past that still often torments her.

Matt and Kyra definitely have a slow build in their relationship as they both sort of work out their own past issues but everything falls into place and its easy to see they belong together. With each other they can sooth their souls and find an inner peace.

Barrett has penned another beautiful love story with Kyra and Matt in Fallen Idol that fits in wonderfully with the previous books in the series. Her characters definitely come to life and pull you in, her plot is always thrilling, and she loves to keep you wondering just where this path is leading then turns you halfway through just to throw you off track.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow....So glad I was introduced to this author! June 3 2015

I read this book as part of the Dangerous Encounters series and am I so glad that I did. I am new to Nikki Lynn Barrett, but I am going to go buy the other books in the Love and Music in Texas series as soon as I finish this review. I loved all the characters that showed up in this series and can not wait to find out their story next!

This was a fantastic read. It had its emotional roller coaster ride moments....even had me teary eyed during my lunch I work, I had to stop so I didn't end up as a blubbering idiot :) Which is a good thing.

Loved Matt & Kyra. They are such opposites but work so well together and I am so glad I was able to read their story!

This is a multi POV and is book 4 of the series but can be read as a stand alone.

Would I recommend this book? Yes!

Would I read more from this author? Yep...that is my next stop.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed June 4 2015
By Jessica - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

When I was offered the opportunity to read and review this book, I jumped on the chance. I love reading books that are a part of a series and I was excited to find a new author and a new series to read. However, as I read Fallen Idol, I was thrown off time and again by little things (typos, some words I felt were poorly chosen, and contradictory descriptions). I wanted to get to know the characters and enjoy their interactions, but I read description after description without the sense of connection I had hoped to find. Matt's hatred of music and musicians is totally understandable, but where was the tension this should have caused? Yes, he's a great guy, but he could have struggled more to get past his feelings when were were told often how strongly he felt them. I also didn't fell much regarding Kyra's "conflict" with her sister, Amy, either. As someone with sisters (and a reader who loves reading about sibling relationships), I found Kyra and Amy's relationship underdeveloped and uninteresting.

The pacing didn't work for me, either, maybe in part because of the editing and definitely because I didn't grow to care about the characters. Parts of the plot were too drawn out (including the suspense of what actually happened to Kyra all those years ago and who was so threatened by her return to music), and without feeling invested in the characters, I could easily put down my ereader after every chapter (even in the middle of a chapter) to do something else. I want to thank the author for giving me the chance to read her work, but I won't be racing to pick up books 1-3 of her Love and Music in Texas books.
