About the Author

"Color and pattern are my obsessions, and playing with them in different mediums leads to a stimulating life." Kaffe Fassett enjoys worldwide artistic recognition for his visionary, organic and instinctive uses of color and pattern inspired by centuries of decorative arts and the compelling world of nature. He is the first textile designer to be given a one-person show at both the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. He also is a leading fabric designer for Rowan Patchwork and Quilting and the leading knitwear designer for Rowan Yarns. Born and raised in San Francisco, Kaffe moved to London to paint at the age of 19. He became a permanent London resident in 1964 and from London, travels, exhibits and teaches around the world.

The sweater in the book would require a high level of expertise in knitting as well as the patience of Job! Beautiful colour combo though a bit out dated.

HASH(0xa2b84c18) out of 5 stars Not for the meek of heart, but worth a look! March 30 2000
By mcraeak - Published on
Format: Paperback
I had heard a great many people say how much they liked Fassett's use of color, and so I found this book and explored. I'm glad I did that before I bought it: I have a very different set of sensibilities when it comes to color than the authors of Family Album.
I've given it a relatively high score, though, for the nice lines of their clothing and the clear instructions. I am just not the right knitter for their designs.
There's nothing here for anyone below the level of an adventurous intermediate knitter (IMHO), but the book itself would be great inspiration to increase your skill if you like their style - great pictures and good-looking models make this almost a coffee table book.
The patterns and colors are too overstated for my taste, but it's very clear to me that they love their subject and they give good value in the book (over thirty designs for about $20 on this site).

HASH(0xa2b21c00) out of 5 stars One of the Most Beautiful Knitting Books I Own March 2 2009
By Fairbanks Reader - Bonnie Brody - Published on
Format: Paperback
This is an incredibly beautiful book as are all of Kaffe Fassett's books. It is as much an art book as it is a knitting book. It is filled with luscious photographs of flowers, fields, designs and natural objects which complement the beautiful knitted projects.

The patterns are quite complex. I am an experienced knitter and I think I might go blind trying to knit one of these patterns.

I look at this book over and over in order to draw ideas and inspiration, and for its beauty.

HASH(0xa2b29738) out of 5 stars colorful but complicated! Nov. 4 2011
By sally tarbox - Published on
Format: Paperback
Book of Kaffe Fassett designs for men's, women's and kids' knitwear, creatively photographed in such places as Morocco and Key West. There's lots of full page spreads illustrating the jumpers which are pretty ambitious in terms of working with many colors simultaneously (intarsia cables for example!) but they certainly are attractive and I completed one (after a lot of tangles!)

I love his use of color and design. Only downfall is not all patterns shown in pictures are in book. Has patterns for the whole family.
