HASH(0xa39fd084) out of 5 stars Vieuxtemps Ballade at Polonaise Op. 38, was composed by Henryk Wieniawski. Sept. 18 2015
By Peter Dietrich - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
The tittle demands explanation, therefore I will translate parts from Henryk Wieniawski biography written by Russian musicologist Vladimir
Grigoriev and translated from Russian into Polish by Ivona Winiarska and published by Henryk Wieniawski Society in Poznan. On page 99 the
Author writes the following information: " The meeting between Polish composer Henryk Wieniawski's (1835-1880) with the Belgian composer
Henri Vieuxtemps's ( 1820-1881) was very interesting not as a competition ( both were great violinists) but as a friendly one. They were friends before and continue to be friends to the rest of their life's, but that particular meeting is part of the legend where certain things are unbelievable
and at the same time are very true. Vieuxtemps never show any interest to compose music based on Slavic folklor although some Russian motives could be found in his composition, but unexpectly he became an author of such work as the Ballade et Polonaise op.38, which was
Composed in the mid-fifties of the 19th century.True with the legend this work does not belong to catalog of his composition , but to Henryk
Wieniawski who according to one Versions gave it as a gift and according other version lost it by playing carts with his Belgian friend. Today we
Can make certain comparisons from the biographical facts of both composers. The composition that Wieniawski performed in concert on 23 April 1854 in Poznan was titled Adagio elique et Polonaise a la gualtiera . What composition this is and why Wieniawski never played it in concert to the rest of his life ,when he loved to play his works in concerts. Also from among many composition by Vieuxtemps 's he never performed the Ballade et a Polonaise Op. 38 ." The author gives many other reasons why this composition belongs to Wieniawski and when we
Listen carefully to the great Belgian violinist Arthur Grumiaux Or Misha Keylin we discover immediately that this work is foreign to all Vieuxtemps composition and while we listen to Wieniawski ,we recognize not only his style but the richness of his melodies which are very Polish
Like his Legende Op.17 which bears similarity to the Ballade and Polonaise Op.38 to Wieniawski other works. In the present recording both Fantasia Appassionata and Ballade et Polonaise and other works are beautifully performed by violinist Misha Keylin unknown completaly to me . His impeccable
Musicianship great technique and very convincing interpretation are joy to listen . He is ably supported by the Slovak Radio symphony Orchestra
,conducted superbly by Andrew Mogralia.
Very Highly recommended.
