Haven't played a Farcry game before so this is my first entry in the series. Absolutely stunning visuals and setting. Tight controls and a massive environment to explore. Although a bit thin, the story is quite intriguing and I find the characters memorable, albeit simple. They are cave people after all. Hunting and Gathering can be a touch tedious, but overall the gameplay system is very rewarding as you expand your territory and build your village.

The animal taming is the best. There's nothing more sinisterly satisfying than staking out an enemy outpost with your owl, then sending in your jag to silently pick off the lookouts, then sending in your bear to steamroll the leftovers.

*IMPORTANT*
I have ONLY played on Survival with perma death.

This has been one of the more enjoyable games I have played this year. Playing with most of the assists off, no hunter vision etc is extremely challenging but rewarding game play. You actually have to fear the animals as much as any enemy npc. Food and hunting is crucial to your survival. Being very cautious walking around the absolutely amazing environment, completing quests and hunting for food with the most basic of weapons is an absolute joy and shift form the everyday run and gun.

Permanent death can be very rough, for example I found a bear near the beginning of the game and thought I could handle him. Boy was I wrong, he threw me around like a rag-doll until my HP hit 0. Oh well lesson learned start up a new game and back into the jungle I went. More cautious and alert then before, feeling just as much like prey as the hunter.

The only thing missing from this game so far would be a full Co-op campaign. Being able to take on this crazy challenge with a friend would be absolutely amazing. If one dies it is game over for both of you. Maybe in the next one Ubisoft.

The game itself is great. Really enjoying it. I was disappointed in the shipping though. I was informed that I would get this delivered on the release date but didn't get it till 2 weeks after the release. Had I known that I would have just bought it elsewhere.

I love the Far Cry games and while this one might be my least favorite it is still a HUGE game with so many choices of where you can go and the things you can do that it is well worth buying and playing. What I find a bit dull with this game is your choice of weapons, being limited to what you would have in the stone ages including clubs, spears, bows, etc. When playing the other Far Cry games I always hated the challenges where you had to hunt something with a bow, and now there is a whole game built around hunting things with a bow so I'm not as enthused as I would be if I could buy a really awesome sniper rifle and pick off the bad guys from the top of a hill 100s of yards away. That being said, there are precious few games that are this "open" and that makes it worth the price.

Initially a fun experience to play but the long term effects of having to harvest materials to craft weapons continuously becomes a tiring experience though it does tend to add to the overall intended ambiance of the game. Not the best FarCry I've played and the story within the game is an overall disappointment. I don't mind the occasional subtitles but when the entire game is built around them because the developer chose to go all out by immersing you in this world with a specific unknown language it get's a little annoying.

The visuals are nice however. It's worth a play through, but perhaps wait until it goes into the sale bin.

Farcry Primal is a departure from the series staples of standing characters in tropic locations to fight against various kinds of Warlords with little more thna bit of tribal assistance and huge stockpiles of guns and ammunition. Instead, Farcry Primal takes you back to 10,000 B.C.E (a distinction I personally appreciate) and puts you in the shoes of Takkar; the games protagonist. Unfortunately, Farcry Primal manages to be the worst Farcry game yet.

---STORY---

Searching for the Wedja, his people, Takkar travels to the land of Oros. The last survivor of a party that set out from their home, Takkar arrives in Oros to find his blood-brothers in dire straits: cannibals and fire God worshipping invaders have come to Oros, scattering the Wedja people to the wind. It is up to Takkar to reunite his people and drive back the invaders.

The story of Farcry Primal is just what you would expect. Primal. The exposition is lacking; there is no compelling antagonist; and the cinematic flair that previous games had seems to have been abandoned entirely in this game.

---GAMEPLAY----

People who rushed out to buy Farcry Primal likely did so because of the previous two installments: Both Farcry 3 and 4 were fantastic shooters with RPG elements, allowing players to not only hunt animals to expand their inventory and load outs, but add diversity to the action. Wild tigers attacking enemy patrols. That same feeling is here in Primal. Strangely enough, Farcry Primal doesn't look as good as previous installments, nor does it play as well. The world feels rather empty to it's predacessors, and the combat is, well, awful.
