Reading Faraday's accounts of some of his early electromagnetism experiments (e.g. the Faraday disk, or homopolar generator) reminded me of reading Einstein's 1905 papers--it is as if the author has intuition for, or access to, a plane of understanding that is not available to most of us. He sees beyond the flickering shadows of the cave.
