Fire and Ice is an opposites attract romance that is so much more than can be said; it was full of heart, emotion, sizzling chemistry and complex characters. Fire and Ice is the first book I have read Rhonda James but definitely won’t be my last as I absolutely adored this book and never wanted it to end - I was gripped from start to finish. The theme may be seen as common but I found the book was completely unique in terms of it’s plot, the writing style, and the characters, and I will definitely keep an eye out for more by this author. This definitely makes my all time favourites list.
Derek and Laney, who tell the book through dual points of views, are strong individuals with an immediate attraction to each other. From the beginning, their relationship goes through a real rollercoaster of emotions as they untangle their way through their lives, dealing with a range of emotions from passion, happiness, love but also some sensitive and difficult emotional issues that are tackled with such heartfelt emotion. While the characters may be opposites, the two characters complimented each other perfectly as their relationship developed (and things heated up). The characters, while realistically flawed, were hugely likeable, even more so once you truly get to know them.
Fire and Ice was beautifully written with such a heartfelt storyline that I just loved from start to finish. Everything was paced so well at a steady rate and the emotions of both characters completely captured you as a reader that it all felt very real and the dual points of views really helped strengthen this story further. The plot was refreshingly unique and so unpredictable with plenty of twists and turns to keep you hanging on to find out how things will play out. I’m not going to say much more to avoid spoiling anything in terms of the plot. This can be read as a standalone with a HEA.
Overall, if you are looking for a well written book with a unique plot that feels fresh from a lot of other books out there, definitely give this book a read. I highly recommend it!
